The London Leprechaun reports on a perrfect momentous match that occurred in the borough of Westminster.

Posh clothes – check. Hat – don’t think my pink Middlesex cap will do today. . No need for packed lunch or coffee today. Entry ticket check. No I’m not off to Westminster Abbey or Lord’s today but to an indoor street party. So news from Lord’s will have to come via phone updates – I’m still not flash enough or Android enough to get the commentary on my not quite smart enough phone and anyway it would look a little odd to be listening to the radio at a street party.

So before 11.00 it is watching all the comings and goings round London and wondering if the little rain we have just had is affecting Lord’s. As Prince Philip and Prince Charles arrive I wonder if they are thinking about the Wedding or will our Patron be checking the scores during lulls in the service, or will the Duchy of Cornwall be keeping Charles informed about the tribulations of his Oval gang. Maybe not.

The Wedding ceremony goes very smoothly – nice music, nice flowers, no sign of Royalty checking Iphones for scores. No sign of rain so they must be playing at Lord’s. But my not so smart phone is not helping me as when I have the first chance to check the score it has gone into a time warp and tells me that Surrey are 70/4 in their first innings - I know that – I was there!! But a few refreshes later and the current score 70/2 comes up. Are the Duchy of Cornwall’s side looking like they might dig in – are they playing for rain? But just as William and Kate strolled out of the Abbey the first two wickets fell and hopefully it is just a matter of time now. Even more so when I see that Maynard has gone cheaply – only Steve Davies to get past now. So time to relax over Pimms, Champagne toasts, strawberries, and in between fly pasts, balcony scenes, and endless highlights of the day wickets fall steadily, and just before William and Kate leave in a lovely old car, the Middlesex 2011 Rolls Royce flattens the battered Surrey mini. Time to feel a little sympathy for Maynard and Davies left stranded by their colleagues in the 90s; but more time to admire that very nice looking 2^{nd Division table.}

Quick check on the wicket takers – 4 for TRJ; 3 for Captain Marvellous and now who do we play against Gloucester with everyone fit and fresh. Especially as the 2nd XI have just rolled Sussex over and put themselves in with a chance to win that match. So who was that fly past really for?

And come home to see that Essex have just chased down a mammoth total against Glamorgan – this is the Essex we bowled out twice in a day and Gloucestershire have done for Kent. So Wednesday is already an important top of the table clash. Who would have believed it a year ago. I wonder if our Patron knows.
