Snow at Lord's and a Challenge from Grockles

Moments after snow thawed

A short two-part feature. Firstly, meeting the perfectly reasonable request for photographs of snow at Lord's. I've managed to find two. Secondly, announcing MTWD's participation in a simulated cricket challenge from Grockles (Somerset supporters') site.

Snow at Lord's

In response to the perfectly reasonable, seasonal request for photographs of snow at Lord's, here are the only two I could find:

The groundsman at Lords surrounds the square with a roll of barbed wire to protect against Anti-Apar

One of Mick Hunt's Boys at Lord's 2 February 2009, in a vain attempt to prevent Middlesex news from leaking out of Lord's to the gutter press.  Or perhaps he is trying to keep out thousands of angry Middlesex protestors demanding the reinstatement of the historic nickname "Crusaders".

Dig the 1970 haircut.

Only one other photograph in the library met this perfectly reasonable request for a photograph of Snow at Lord's:

Englands John Snow takes his 100th test wicket as he clean bowls Rest of the Worlds Mike Procter

Off stump cartwheels out of the ground as John Snow takes his 100th test wicket, at Lord's.

Grockles Cricket Simulation Challenge

Those of you who journey to Grockles site over the winter will already know that Grockle has challenged MTWD to a simulation game/tournament of cricket using ICC Cricket Captain.

Your intrepid team of moderators can write their knowledge and experience of this particular simulation game on the back of a postage stamp, although all three of us boast some experience of sports simulation games on our e-CVs and admit to being lousy at them.  Big help, we are.

Mercifully we at least know that MTWD boasts one ICC Cricket Captain specialist in Gareth Blake who has kindly agreed to help lead our challenge.  No doubt there are others of you out there who can help who will repsond to this news on the thread below or by e-mail to mtwdadmin@googlemail.com

Please do let us know your ideas and/or your willingness to participate.

Grockle and I spent some time talking this through last evening and have agreed that we'll pilot the game, probably next week, using a Twenty20 match to get the swing of it (many thanks to Gareth for that bonza idea).  But if that works we envisage a short series of simulated 1st class matches between Somerset and Middlesex.

News of squads and playing conditions will follow - meanwhile here is the link to Grockles thread on this subject:

Just a bit of fun to help the winter pass more pleasantly.  If it works, who knows, it might become a seasonal feature!

I have ICC Cricket Captain 2006, and it's a good little game. If you want any help, let me know.

What exactly are we basing the teams on? Current squads, or prospective signings, last year's squads? Could do with Joyce and Smithy to bolster the batting :s

The key with the game is not to be too aggressive, and if it's a one day side, pack the side with extra batsman and batting all rounders. Yes, the oppo rack up a big score, but you get a decent chance to win. Many a time I've won with Scotty coming in at no. 8 to save the day!

My understanding is it is being based on last seasons squads.

It may not come to fruitition I'm afriad guys and gals. We've updated the game and now have 2008 squads but unfortunately the package doesn't offer the county sides on the two player option so we can't have a two way match unless someone on the Middlesex side has a copy of the 2008 version and can set themselves up on the net to offer opposition to the "Grocklees"

Never mind it was a good idea and the bext laid plans of etc etc
