To explain in more detail the purpose of the survey.

1/ I am always looking for constructive advice on ways this site can be improved

2/ I am intrigued that our hit rate is increasing , but actual contributions are decreasing. We have a number of lurkers only and would be interested to hear their views.

3/ Myself and other moderators have increasing commitments outside of cricket this season. We will need help with all aspects of running the site and any offers will be well received.

Would you not have to be registered to take part in your survey (I am thinking of the Lurkers).

And would you be interested in the views of a Somerset supporter or would you like it kept to just Middlesex supporters?

Anything we learn from any source can but make us better in what we are trying to do with this site.

Anyone able to give the mods a course in pc skills,cutting and pasting etc would be most useful to have on board though. It's not the enthusiasm we lack it's the expertise in these areas which seem to become more complex by the day.

Peoples views on daily match reports will be very interesting to me as last year we got by missing very few days but with a hard core of regular reporters doing the job.

Diamond agreed about the reporting. I myself did two early reports and then faded away as explained to Kev in PM. Will certainly look to do a few more this year.

Without asking for exact figures, how many regular contributors would we have on this site? There is a lot of cricket to cover, but as you say, if spread about then its possible to achieve.

Having read this thread,and made some notes i feel i can add my comments!

1- I saw Kevs MTWD t-shirt at Uxbridge a few years ago,wrote down the website and had my first look.

2-I read the site everyday and No3 I contribute frequently.

4-Being able to meet up with friends from here and the banter is usually top class! During the season,a lot of honest comments about the season(usually causes a few good chat lines!).The enjoyent and laughs had at grounds,the travel etc.

5-Having the headline photo changed a bit more during the season if possible,and maybe having the side pieces updated by contributors.

6-As above

7-Yep,already do match reports and enjoy doing them,It would be good to find some new reporters for the coming season(Hint,Hint!!)

8-If the reports finished it would be a shame as there are always a lot of points others add.They also help the MTWD'ers who live away and cant reach games often.

9-Have tried to help,but the mods know my PC skills are rated at just below 1 out of 10 at times!

10,Yes,this site needs to carry on,as lots speak of it.The media have used comments before and its now part of cricket folklaw,long may it stay!!

I do know the mods put an awful lot of their own free time into this site and always get reports etc put up as soon as they can.
If anyone is willing to help,they would appreciate it to help keeping this site moving on!

Thanks for all replies, mostly in private , but I do not have a problem if you want to announce answers.

I am sorry I can't reply to everyone individually, but there seems to be a kind of consensus so far I will give this another week and let you know of any conclusions.

Any lurkers out there like to give this a go?

Thank you to all who contributed to the survey. I am grateful for the number of responses and all the feedback received. It is not possible to comment on every point made, but would like to share the main areas of consensus and offer some further thoughts.

•All who responded are happy with the site on the whole and are pleased this forum exists.

•The main area of criticism is silliness that sometimes occurs on serious cricket threads and these going off track from what could be a good cricket discussion. I’m conscious I’m a culprit of this at times. I’m not saying we should take ourselves too seriously either. My first step in redressing this is on Afaq Babar thread I did not say, “ I’d rather have Ali Babar”.

•There was more than one inference we are a kind of “closed shop”. This reflecting that there is really only 5 or so contributors during the day and there is a kind of clique at games amongst the more high profile users here. I will state I would like to meet as many users of site as possible and of course you are welcome to join us for day, but cannot guarantee our behaviour during the cricket will be compatible with yours. Also, this week, I will use an idea from the survey feedback as a way of a MTWD welcome.

•There are comments that some people feel they are put down for posting when not at games. The board thrives on views of all whether at games or not, regardless of their level of cricket knowledge. We all should have right to a view without feeling undermined. I really don’t want repeat of what happened during Taunton first game last season.

•Regarding abuse of fellow posters, luckily matters are not as bad as they have been in past. The moderators have taken a liberal approach, but do not have the time to constantly issue warnings to offenders. Basically, if you are perceived to be acting in an abusive way, you will be banned not necessarily with a warning. I am relying on individual’s common sense to work out what is acceptable.

•Abuse of Players has been mentioned. I will repeat what is the agreed policy. It would be a very boring forum if we cannot comment on players performances good or bad. However, we must avoid outright abuse or obsessively picking on a player due to some personal feeling.

•It looks like there will be no further help to the moderation team. We will just have to do our best for the coming season and will try everything possible to avoid disjointed timing of reports or leaving something on that shouldn’t be there.

•Without exception there was a clear acknowledgment of match reports being one of best features of the site. I am grateful that 2 non-regular reporters provided excellent reports pre-season from Chelmsford. On saying that it is unlikely we will sustain this throughout the season unless we can spread the load further.

Finally lets hope for a good season ahead for Middlesex CCC and for us to thrive as forum for showing our support for our beloved team.
