Beefy predicts for his advanced match report- we batted, made a low score....Kent batted and won. Adelaide says- Also, Chunky has omitted any reference to Dan Christian. At one stage this could have been a stand alone report. However, nobody foresaw some divine inspiration. Barmy Kev takes over.
I really was expecting Beefy’s comment would suffice for report and I could throw another sacra-religious Christian comment for good measure.
Strangely, due to a Jewish religious commitment, the start of me following game was just after 8pm. At that time I was on train home, checked phone with 18 and bit overs gone Kent were on a score in the 180’s looking like a 200+ score.
I couldn't be asked to check their final score when I arrived home and was not motivated to follow matters. I just can’t help myself, so I checked MTWD message board with dread and saw JW comment about 3 of ours out and us needing a miracle. I was about to submit a Beefy (Chunky in disguise) with Adelaide comment report and for accompanying picture a group of Muppets to represent our efforts. Then I can relax and suggest someone prophecises our next 20/20 report with me setting a MTWD 3 hour before start of play deadline.
I really couldn’t help myself again and something made me switch on to Internet commentary. The first comment I heard from KH was saying at least we are top of County Championship, which really confirmed we were out of this match. My first actual score update was Kent made 208 and we were 38-3 from 5 overs. The Beefy/ Chunky + Adelaide effort was almost on printing press. The 6th over we scored 20 all by Christian, which took us to 1 run behind what Kent were at same stage although Kent lost less wickets. KH still felt we needed a miracle.
While Christian was hitting sixes fours/galore with our other middle order batsmen making less but some significant contributions and getting out, I would like to make three quotes that make some of MTWD Message Board material look relatively fairly respectable.
1/ Kent fan tweet “Can we play you every week”
2/ Middlesex fan “ Morgan is a wasted talent"
3/ Kent commentator – (forget his name but it sounded like Matt Coles ex player) saying how well Christian is doing and we are looking comfortable just to curse a wicket.
Despite one man boundary fest, the run rate required really looked like we had no chance. Kevin Hand recalled how at same ground Adam Gilchrist and Eion Morgan have produced miraculous innings in a winning cause, but victory today would surpass these. It still looked impossible as we were in 15th over then… can’t remember exactly how it went but 6, 6 4 etc. 28 scored off of over all from Christian. With this momentum 70 needed off of 5 looking promising and Kent commentator was talking about miracles needed for Kent. There were commentary errors on who was on strike, was it a four or six and more random predictions. Just as well Lizzie wasn’t there.
A TRJ 6 followed by single meant we needed 29 off 2 overs but Christian not facing. A single off first ball we have a chance. 2 fours followed by a single. TRJ on strike caught on deep, at least batsman cross,Christian on strike. Then Christain out, we collapse before you can say cluster and we lose by 16 runs. Perhaps I should have stuck with plan A for match report?
From my angle, I have no idea how Kent scored as many as they did. From what I gathered of our response overs 5–20, all we needed was one recognised batsman to hang around with Christian and we would have at least a 1 out of 6 20/20 record. A check of scorcard Christian scored 129 next highest score 14.
