Beefy reports from South of River and survives to give an update on form of our players, lost balls and some guest appearances for the opposition

Sunbury,although over the border in Mexico was a nice, friendly club to visit. A cold wind was blowing,with the River Thames behind the club. Before the game started,a crowd of between 30-40,but got bigger as the game started. Middlesex batted first, opening with Compton and Gubbins, Voges and Franklin both in the team.

First ball and an injury scare as Compo takes the first run and is hit on the leg by the ball. He falls to the ground with the physio running on fast, but thankfully he gets up slowly and resumes batting. Gubbins first ball he hooks it into a local house back garden, not sure if the ball was returned, but plenty others to choose from. Compo goes being caught at Deep Square legfor 17. Voges comes in and is soon caught behind for 6. The overs didnt move very fast,as there were plenty of no-balls. Franklin comes in,his first appearance for the Middle,looks in good nick and he soon launches the ball in our direction,long off (sort of) and it flies over the pavilion into the car park. Next ball he is dropped as the ball bounces out of the fielders hands, then, next ball he is bowled making 29 runs. Nick Gubbins reaches 50, gets to 57 and is given out LBW,from our seats, it sounded like he hit it and wasn’t too happy as he walks off. Simmo comes in and decides to have a hit out a 6 again over the pavilion, but as it hits the roof, breaks a window. All the loose balls being punished by Simmo another back garden has the ball in it now. Simmo was out for 30,caught near the boundary. Ollie comes in for 4 balls and gets 18 runs...Why didnt he come in up the order?  Finish on 223-6

Compo in action

Sunbury batting,we start with Harris and Podmore bowling. Guest batsman Paul Stirling opens with Adam London. Stirling gets 27,and is caught by Higgins off Franklin soon becomes 31-2 as the other guest batsman Balbirnie is out for 2 runs caught by Ravi Patel off Podmore After 10 overs they are 51-4,including a run-out by Dexter.Sunbury lose another and 71-5,a LBW for Podmore after a double appeal.91-5 and Adam London gets a well deserved 50. Sunbury finish on 111-5,with London finishing on 64 no.

Middlesex till he dies

A fair crowd in the end saw a good Middlesex display and the debut by Franklin he looked fully fit as bowling with a long run up.
