Silverwood made his debut for Yorkshire in 1993.

He Played for England Under 19s in 1994 and made his full international debut in 1996 on the tour of Zimbabwe, appearing in both the Test and one-day side.

Recorded match figures of 4-71 on his Test debut but had to wait three years before he was selected again on the 1999-2000 tour of South Africa.

Took 5-91 in the fourth Test in Cape Town but never quite captured his county form on the international stage.

Went on to play in six Tests and seven ODIs but more recently he played a part for England in the Hong Kong Sixes tournament in 2002 and 2003, where he put in a match-winning performance with both bat and ball in the 2003 final against Pakistan.

A more than useful lower-order batsman, Silverwood has also been pushed up the order to pinch hit for Yorkshire in limited-overs cricket.

Providing Chris can stay clear of injuries this is an excellent signing. His genuine pace will prove to be an asset. Perhaps he fell just short of test class, but he has proved to be an excellent county bowler. We hope our pitches will be helpful in attaining movement off the seam. Chris is a more than useful hard-hitting batsman and can perhaps do a Trego like role lower down. This signing considerably strengthens the balance of our side and depth in bowling and batting.
