MIDDLESEX PLAYERS PERFORMANCE PREDICTION GAME 2009
Don't Need A Weatherman..
By Ged
April 7 2009
Once again, by popular demand, Ged presents the simple prediction game based on Middlesex players’ performance in the County Championship. Everyone can play for free and Ged offers a miniscule, cricket-related prize for the winner. Entries must be in by 10.00 a.m. Wednesday 22nd April and there will be no extended deadline.
Guess what each player’s County Championship average (batting and bowling) will be at the end of the 2009 season.
For each player who has 8 or more innings (for batting) and 10 or more wickets (for bowling) your prediction will be compared with the actual average. You get an unwanted point for each run difference between your estimate and the true average.
For example, if you guess that Neil Dexter will have a batting average of 45 and a bowling average of 41, and in fact he has a batting average of 42 and a bowling average of 39, you will get 3 points for his batting and 2 points for his bowling.
If you do not submit an estimate for a player who in the event does have 8 innings or takes 10 wickets, you will be awarded 40 unwanted points for each discipline you failed to estimate. However, you do not get penalised for having a guess for a player who doesn’t make the cut, so it is worth having a guess at more or less the whole squad.
The person with the lowest number of points wins a miniscule cricket-related prize.No-one has won this coveted prize more than once – yet!!
Here is the Hall of Fame for this game so far:
¨2005 – James D
¨2006 – Warren Ladd (no relation)
¨2007 – Dingy Bags (prize still lost in post)
¨2008 – Daisy (relation)
The table below shows Ged’s attempt at prediction. If Ged wins, there’ll be a prize for 2nd place but the prize might be that much smaller, if that is possible!

As we return to proper cricket, all 9 human contestants (plus the 3 benchmarks) must be beside themselves over this game.
After just 3 matches, when of course it is much to early to tell, Blaster 89 is in the lead with 332 points, followed closely by Barmy Kev on 346 and Comebackgatt on 353.
Poll of polls and 1st class averages are doing better than everyone other than those above.
MI is next with 371.
I am tied in 7th place with reigning champion Daisy (would you believe it) on 372.
Auntie Janet is bringing up the rear in 12th on 407.
Here is a link to the full model. Please point out mistakes if I have made any - they will be honest ones I assure you.
Could there be a stewards enquiry? Blaster69 won the Opening Fixture team comp, leads the Fantasy Cricket League and now tops this?. What are the numbers for this weeks lottery Blaster?
Blaster89 is still in the lead with Barmy Kev impressing in 2nd place. Our combined wisdom is coming third, with a very close knit pack after that comprising Gatt, MI and Daisy.
Bringing up the rear are me, Auntie Janet and Hippity. Oh dear.
But we have seen the last becoming first and the first becoming last twixt half way point and final standings in this game before, so there is everything still to play for.
Which is probably more than can be said for Middlesex in the CC table, other than the avoidance of that wooden spoon.
