BEEFY AND DINGY BAGS SHARE REPORTING DUTIES ON A GOOD DAY ON THE WHOLE FOR MIDDX

Ok,welcome to Durham the furthest North ground,and im pleased to say it's my 18th ground,so finally got my county cap!
We travelled the afternoon before for ease and decided to take a taxi to the ground,being told its 15 mins by bus we thought taxi would be quicker,it would of been if we weren't taken the scenic route via the A1M to bump the fare up!
Walking into the ground and the picturesque backdrop,we see the field is bright green and a slightly straw coloured wicket.
Teams are as scorecard,with our star bowler Tim Murtagh then waffle,waffle,yak,yak about all things Durham,we eventually find out we won the toss,yes you did see that! Putting Durham into bat.
1st over Murtag ( according to PA) from Lumley Road and Finny from the Finchale End.
It didn't take long for the first wicket as Smith is LBW Murtag for just less than 1 its 3-1. It
was a confident appeal but umpire Robinson did put the finger up.
Another wicket soon follows as the new football star Murtag deflects the ball onto the stumps to run out Muchall. Murtag then goes on a one legged dance around the field holding the foot! It's 18-2 this soon goes to 18-3 Stokes gone c Morgan b Finn for a duck.
1st Middle point and Benckinstein is in. I decide for the coffee run( £2.20 a cup) and miss a wicket as Durham collapse to 29-4 Stoneman gone now c Simmo b Berg.
What is going on??
Durham reach 50-4 and Benkenstien has a habit of walking across his stumps so he must be out soon. As predicted Benkenstein goes for 18 as he is c Murtag b TRJ and they are 54-5 as you can see our star footballer has now reverted back to his original name of Tim Murtagh,as Durham change the PA.
Dingy comment "' Come on Finny you are the only one without a wicket". He duly obliges as he gets the wicket of Collingwood for 16 he is caught Malan b Finn.Its 2 pts to the Middle.
Lunch arrives at they are 61-6.

Big Harvey was re-considering his view that putting them in was a surprise but for a while Borthwick and the impressive Richardson nudged the score along. Berg resumed at the Finchale End and Murts (now pronounced properly) at the Lumley. Finn a bit under-bowled - Buck tactic or Flowerpot man laying down some rules?
Soon enough, though, Borthwick touched one through to Simmo and then Bergie, with the classic double-bluff, moved a second man back on the legside boundary for Thorp, only to bowl a full length ball and get him with one of those lbws where it's almost unnecessary to appeal. 81-8 became 83-9 when Onions touched Bergie through to Simmo and it looked like Durham wouldn't reach three figures. That they did was down to the skill of Rchardson and the good sense of last man Rushworth. Finn was recalled and soon had Richardson edging to Sam at slip, who juggled it, only for the alert Simmo to snatch it up for his fourth catch.
102 ao in 41.2 overs and just one leg bye as an extra.
It was clear that the ball was doing plenty and we all know Durham have some decent seamers and at least one world-class bowler. So, the start was crucial, against Onions and Rushworth. But, not without alarms, we went well. Buck clipped Rushworth off his toes for a crisp four and Sa nudged one fine off Onions for his first boundary. But it was testing, especially from Onions (predictably), showing no signs of his recent injury. But Buck is in fine form and a straight drive off Rushworth was especially memorable.
However, at 34, Sam walked across one from first-change Thorp who seemed to have swung it back into a stiff breeze and we'd lost our first wicket just as they had - lbw playing no shot. Still, we reached tea at 63-1and, bumping into Don Shelley at the interval, we all agreed that it was a great position with the ball moving about so much. First two sessions very definitely to us and now Beefy will resume the report after tea...
Ok,Back to Beefy
We take the tea walk for a pint,and without realising the players are back on,time flies up here!
Hands up to say,we missed Denly getting out c Collingwood b Stokes and we are 67-2 and Rogers soon follows Denly back and we are now looking a bit worried Rogers gets a very good 59 we are 83-3 as Moggy comes and Moggy goes for just less than 1 he is LBW to Stokes 84-4 and Simmo comes in.
Soon,the covnversation heads in the direction of 'will we see pitch inspectors in the morning'
Doom as we lose yet another wicket.This time Simmo gets a nick and is caught by Collingwood for 1,86-5 and we all think is this all about the shortest county game?
The ball is still going everywhere and this after tea.The sun has baked the pitch as well.
We get to 100-5 as Bergie getsa slight edge for 4,we take the lead and then,Malan is heading back to the pavilion he is out for 24 c Collingwood b Thorp (Collingwood still got his catching instincts,a top fielder).
Ollie comes in to join Bergie and we need a bit of re-building here its 123-6. An edge of Rayner to slips,but a high diving chance is missed we get 2 runs and score moves to 132-6.
All day long the Lumley Road end sightscreen cloth has been blowing like a ballon,would this put the players off?
Last over its Borthwick who takes it to Rayner,the first ball takes him by surprise and he just gives the ball back to the bowler and is caught and bowled for 14.
Bergie 30 no. had a good day with 3 wickets.
So,back on Saturday for day 2 and see what happens!
