Exciting episode of Corey followed by late drama

Rod.ed braves the cold to bring up a first hand report of a chillly day at Durham. We hear about dropped catches, and some decent bowling and batting from both sides as well as the skills of the beer pullers in the Pavilion. And some good photos too! Thanks to our northern correspondents
My two hour drive to Chester-le-Street had been been under cloud cover but rain looked unlikley.Out of the car a chilly North East wind was blowing but the wicket was at the far side of the square away from the pavillion so watching from the indoor warmth was not a good option. There was good seating available at either end almost giving a 'behind the bowlers arm' view. It was a day for coats/fleeces/hats for watching and the players were all hands in pockets between balls.
It's cold oop North
Harris and Colly started with both bowling tight lines and with Colly getting the early reward of a regulation catch behind the wicket. Durham continued slowly except for a hooked six off Colly's fifth over.The odd ball seemed to get up about waist hight but they seemed in little trouble.
Spin was introduced in the 20th over with the PA system announcing "Thomas Smith". The batsman immediately used the paddle seep to good effect and the experiment lasted just two overs. Harris replaced Thomas and was spoken to by the umpire for running on the wicket.
Jennings was then dropped on 30 by Robbo but AC was in (too) close attendance and couldn't quite catch the parry.
Lunch 100-1 after 31 overs meant a visit to the pavillion for a pint of Marston's Pedigree. This was, as ever, enjoyable but the club will make no profit as a full tray of slops was produced in pulling the four pints that were in the queue!
After the break Berg and Colly sawpped ends with CC beating three atempted cuts without finding the edge.The sun was briefly out and Borthwick went to his fifty with a pull but fell straight after caught behind. An LBW brought two new men to crease at 114-3. An edge from Stokes may or may not have reached AC but a good diving catch from Simmo did for him but why he didn't walk after such a large deflection was slightly strange.
Collingwood edged his first ball which Simmo almost held onto at full length.They scampered a single and first ball at the other end he pulled tamley to mid-wicket.
After tea Thomas S opened the bowling and again the paddle sweep came out

By 5pm the sky cleared and with Mustard on 35 there was a danger he might cut loose in the better batting conditions.However Breeze chased a wide one from Deco to get an edge, then Thorp tried to do the same for his first ball without moving his feet. He appeared to be a 'stand and deliver' type of batsman and was soon out missing a straight one to the new ball and was followed next up by Wood who at least got his pads in the way. No hatrick was to follow sadly.
Mustard then mixed turning down singles with beligerent fours and with a field of two slips and the rest on the boundary he finally holed out. 259 all out.
This left a tricky 8 overs and Oinions looked to have too much pace for Robbo whose body position may have indicated it kept low. Buck soon followed and looked unhappy, as you should be when out, but from my position it was impossible to comment.
As is often the case we'll know what the wicket is like when both sides have batted.

Thanks Rod for bringing to life the days play. Reading it as both sides have batted on it. We will rue those dropped catches.
