Barmy Kev reports on an uninspiring day for us with a parting shot from a great height.
I turn up thinking next two days are going to define whether we will be using the c or r word for remainder of our season. All four results are possible. The sun is shining and there is a pleasant breeze. Here's hoping for a good day for the Middle. I bring strawberries as play starts I offer them around including my Yorkshire friend Hobo. He said he's having an apple instead as he opens a can of cider.
An hour passes not a sniff of wicket , another hour Lees and Williamson comfortably batting to 50s each. No wickets till lunch. Biggest cheer of day from us during break score announced Sorry 31 2 at Guildford.
2nd ball after lunch a slash high Ollie only slip fielder capable of reaching and indeed he I did. Lees soon out off Murts again-he really didn't want to walk. Bairstow looked better than 1st innings but couldn't resist hook England style caught straight down Helm's throat. No further alarms at up to tea 247 4 with talk of when to declare. Half an hour before close, wait for Gale's 100 and Leanings 50 , overnight, or not at all?
We start off after tea with Mala's deceleration bowling. This set tone as wickets not likely. A Yorkie fan was asking lots of questions like "who's our leg spinner" answer Malan and " why is Rayner wearing black socks" it passed the time of day. Leaning got his 50 Gale his ton. No idea of over rate and unable to catch Don for confirmation. It became embarrassing as Ollie and Mala mainly used and batsmen completely on top. A Malan pie achieved a wicket. Yorkies close on 400. I'm sure they will declare overnight or maybe they will bat a little longer to rub our noses further in it or may have memories of Lord's this season.
I'm packing up to leave ground folding up the banner I discovered a passing seagull pooped on it. From a great height was delivering same the message as the Yorkshire batsmen did today.
