With his tongue very firmly in his cheek, The Diamond Ruled OK suggests some potential sponsors for MCCC players, just in case our club's main sponsor can't come up with the readies in the post Christmas crunch. It's only a bit of fun for the new year and perhaps you, dear readers, have some better ideas still!
With the current troubles of Northern Rock I thought it might be wise to suggest some alternative sponsors for our players.
Rather than have the whole team sponsored by one sponsor I thought it might be prudent to go down the route of some lower league football clubs who have players individually sponsored by local firms etc.
My list though not exhaustive is below and any alternate ones can be posted for our closed season enjoyment.
Ed Smith: with his literary connections I am sure could be sponsored by his publishers. We are all looking for advances next season after all.
Nick Compton: sponsored by a local firm to me in Southall, Himalaya Carpets after his winter exploits.
Billy Godleman: sponsored by Rolex, he will be one to watch next season.
Ed Joyce: sponsored by Guinness, pure genius.
Eoin Morgan: sponsored by Jamiesons, Irish and maturing nicely.
David Nash: sponsored by Brylcream or Wash and Go.
Chris Peploe: sponsored by Pepsi Co.
Alan Richardson: sponsored by High and Mighty, with those looks he could model for them during the winter as well.
Ben Scott: sponsored by Janet Davies, enough said.
Owais Shah: sponsored by Cadbury’s a silky smooth player.
Andrew Strauss: sponsored by Rolls Royce, he might be going through a rough patch at the moment but he is class and has a good engine.
Chris Silverwood: sponsored by the Tote rather than sponsoring them.
Murali Kartik: sponsored by Asprey’s, the guy is an absolute gem.
Tim Murtagh: sponsored by Barclays, you can always rely on Murt’s as a banker.
Dawid Malan: sponsored by Toy’s r Us.
Danny Evans: with his Northern connections should still be able to be sponsored by Northern Rock.
Steven Finn: this one may take some sorting out but he should be sponsored by Ferrari as he is going to be really quick.
Dan Housego: sponsored by Stimpson’s the estate agents.
Shaun Levy: sponsored by the Inland Revenue.
Robbie Williams: sponsored by EMI records.
Gareth Berg: sponsored by MTWD.
Of our departed players JD could be sponsored by The Welsh Tourist Board , Chad by BUPA and Chris Wright by Essex County Council .
Let’s hope none of this comes to bear and that our sponsors of the last few years can sort out their problems and continue with the good works they are doing in sport up and down the country.
