Who Am I? Easter Quiz With Prize

Middlesex All The Way

By Loverboy
March 4 2008

Loverboy has designed one of his fiendish quizzes and is kindly offering a great prize: a copy of Ed Smith's latest book "What Sport Tells Us About Life". The rules are easy enough, which is more than can be said for the ten fiendish questions. Well worth having a go even if you can only answer a few.

The rules of this quiz are simple enough.

There are 10 questions.

You have until 16:00 on 26 March to submit your answers.

Answers should be submitted to Loverboy by private message through this site.

On no account should you post your answers on the message board.

If you send your answers in to MTWDADMIN by e-mail, we will forward your answers but we might also poach your answers, as all the administrators are eligible to play and wish to play.

Enough of this frivolity, let's play WHO AM I?:

All ten of the players have played for Middlesex at first team level since 1968.

1.I played for my country and also fathered triplets.

2.I also played minor county cricket as did my brother who was born on the Isle of Man.

3.I played three first-class matches in all ,but never against another county.

4.I took six wickets on first-class debut but subsequently never took another or scored a run.

5.I shared in a record-breaking partnership for Middlesex and later became a first-class umpire.

6.My father was at one-time the Middlesex scorer.

7.I only scored one first-class century and that was against Middlesex

8.I played Youth Test Matches for England and also played for Durham

9.I scored four first-class centuries for my first county, but none after that.

10.My father and grandfather both played first-class cricket but not both for England or in the county championship.

Many thanks to Loverboy for supplying another of his fiendish quizzes and for offering up a super prize: a copy of Ed Smith's latest book "What Sport Tells Us About Life".  But beyond the prize surely will be the glory of the win.  And surely it will take more than a score of 10% to take the spoils?

There may well be more than one answer to some questions, all are acceptable if they meet the criteria of the question.

Only your first entry counts,so answer all ten if you can first up.

I am forced to remind competitors that my descision on all matters is final and incontravertible.
The merest hint of dissent is likely to cause your instant disqualification from the competition, and suspension from entry in the future.

Very enjoyable game, Loverboy. Well constructed.

I've done my worst on it - my entry is now in.

Other contestants are no doubt quaking in their boots at the thought that Ged has had a go. Especially those of the "10% might be enough" variety.

Entries close at midnight tomorrow Wednesday and results will be published on Thursday a.m.
Still time to get those entries in.

Well Folks it's that moment you've all been waiting for.
Who is our Easter Quiz Champion?
Well keep holding your breath because we just don't know yet.
A last minute flood of entries, which have all been thoroughlly checked by our team of ajudicators, and after numerous recounts we have to announce an incredible
FOUR WAY TIE at the top of the leader board.
Yes four of you scored 8/10 and will now enter the play-offs.
Just to increase the tension for now,you will not be named or made known to your fellow competitors, but you know who you are.
Due to incomplete research by The Quizmaster there are in fact no less than FOUR possible answers to both questions 8 &10.That's EIGHT names we're looking for.
The four of you now have seven days to submit ALL those names by PM to me,and hopefully we'll have an overall winner.
Entries close midnight on Thursday 3rd April.
Good luck to all you four, and many thanks to all of you who took the opportunity to compete.

Well would you believe it,
Who would have guessed that there are now FIVE possible answers to question 8.
The final answers are in,and the adjudicaters meet again tonight to decide on an overall winner, or perhaps not.

This is starting to remind me of the Monty Python "Spanish Inquisition" sketch.

Ha ha , no one expects the Spanish Inquisition !!

The torture is over.
Having put competitors through plenty,it all ends now with the declaration of joint champions.
Rather than expose you both to further punishment I,ve decided enough is enough and have pleasure in announcing that COME BACK GATT and DYNAMO HARROW are awarded first prize in the contest and will BOTH be receiving the ED SMITH book in regognition of their efforts.
They should contact me by PM as to how they would like to receive their prizes.
I extend honourable mentions to Mr Trellis and our very own Ged The Lad for their commendable efforts as well as all the rest of you who were brave enough to enter.
Full answers will be published later.

Many congratulations to both Comebackgatt and to newbie Dynamo Harrow. Worthy winners indeed.

Can I call myself Mr 80% please, Loverboy. And does that qualify as a grade A*, as I might expect?

MADAVAL

To avoid confusion Ged,best not yet as there are four of you out there, now to score consistently at that level as The Balmy Boy tends to do,and we'll reconsider your application.
A B plus is the best I can offer.

I am overwhelmed to be joint winner of such a sought after prize, many thanks to LB for that prize and all his work in putting the comp. together.

Likewise, Comeback, I'm staggered to be joint winner. There'll be dancing in the streets of Harrow tonight. Maybe.

To LB, many thanks for setting the quiz and the prize.
