As a new season starts, here’s a report on the final event of last season. A farewell to our legend David Nash. The event is still is fresh in some minds amongst the attendees and others forgot the details the morning after. As one of the latter and designated reporter ( thanks Ged) I’m grateful for recollections from others were there.

My memory of that bit is probably hazier than yours Kev!!
Can do you a nice little piece on the man and how nice he is to people, e.g.the special phone call he made to my daughter that evening.
Darren Gosling
I wasn't drinking that night but the speeches are now a bitof a blur for me too!
Basically Ian Lovett slaughteredNashy for what seemed like half an hour (probably even longer for Nashy himselfin front of all his family!)
Some of the jokes at Nash’s expensewere......
Dave does take the game very seriously, to prove the pointJules once rang me to tell me that after a bad run of form that "David hadbeen pacing up and down underneath the bed all night "
David's average score is 35 - which is actually quite a highIQ for a wicket keeper!
After a particularly bad match for Middx, David went to thebar and ordered a double neat scotch, a pint of guiness and tequila shotand proceeded to down them all at once. He then said to the barmen "Ishouldn't have done that with what I've got" the barmen looked worried andasked "Why what have you got?"Dave replied "£1.27"
Dave met a business associate for lunch and she told Dave shewas a lesbian. After Dave asked her what the weather was like in Lebanon, shewent on to explain to Dave what a lesbian was. "Well you see that waitressover there? I'd like to rip her blouse off and make love with her".Dave came over all pale and sweatingand said "Oh crikey, I think I'm a lesbian too!"
Early in the season one of the youngsters new to thefirst team was telling Nashy jokes in the changing room when Nashy walked in.Not realising who Nashy was the youngster continued to tell the joke. "ButI am Nashy!" replied Dave. "Oh in that case I'll tell it again veryslowly then,” replied the youngster!
Ian did of course pay tribute toDave's passion, commitment & loyalty to Middx - adding this could be thelast we see of such loyalty the way the game seems to be moving. Ian also addedhow when picked for the final Stanford match in Antigua last year, that Davedeclined as he knew Scotty was being watched by England and didn't want to robhim of the chance of playing such a high profile match.
Nashy thanked everyone for all theirsupport over the years, saying he had thoroughly enjoyed his time at Middx andhoped the return to the club's glory days would not be too far away. He alsoannounced that he & Jules were expecting again - saying if the baby wasshort and bald it was definitely his. He then added that if it was born withblonde hair and rippling muscles then he knew that Compo had done his bit. Thishad the players (including Compo) in stitches!
Nashy thanked Janet for the cake andthanked her for her support - even if she was always championing Ben Scott onthe MTWD website.
Seaxe Man
Personally afterdowning maybe a gallon or so, joining the dance floor with Barmy Kev as apartner, and after he disappeared, a couple of turns with Nash and Scotty wasmy main memory.
My last partner before disappearing into the Uxbridge night was thebarperson/lady.
The music wasn’t really my bag or at least most of it, but it did have therequisite beat which fuelled by alcohol, meant you could keep going.
So well done to the DJ.
A great evening, and managed to make the last train from Uxbridge to boot.
Yours in Sport Seaxe man.

Not a pretty site. Kev and Seaxe Man don't look good either.
Lorraine Poole. MCCC Commercial Manager
For info purposes we made £500 from the raffle and ticket sales for theShooting Stars Children's Hospice. The Club donated the champagne for the toast. Thanks should go to Julian the DJ, Uxbridge for the use of their clubhouse plusBecs, Nicky and Jane for decorating the room and selling the tickets.
Apart from that my only recollections are of Jugs of Blue Cocktails andMurts & Scotty teaching you guys their new moves!
(Editors note- I actually thought it was us teaching them the moves)
Final note from Barmy Kev
My hazy memory was laughing out loud during speeches (thanks Darren for reminding me what was so funny) , the announcementboth Scott and Nash’s Mrs are pregnant and suggesting a poll on who’s offspringwould be better keeper and of course Seaxe Man and myself giving Dial M andScotty dancing lessons. Mostimportantly, an excellent send off for our true MTWD legend.
I remember saying at end roll on next season. Well here we are, almost.
