Beefy reports having got back from his long tour west on his first game. Some detail about train journey , much detail about match or if you can't be asked with that some basic detail highlighted from someone who has never seen a game
The mini tour has started, I meet Ken at the local BR station to
find the train is delayed,a great start! Bit of a panic on my side
whether we will meet the connection at Reading, Ken just stays cool! We
make it by 10 minutes,to find that is delayed as well, just can't win. ( moderators note- could be said just like Middx)
Finding our seats, will sit back and let the train take the
strain, visit to the buffet car and a cool beer is bought, got one bloke
behind us who hasn't stopped talking all the way. Another near us is
taking a picture of an empty seat with his camera. We meet all sorts while
following the Middle!
At Cardiff we decide to get a taxi to ground, its only a small
distance, but due to the music in Millenium stadium, no hotels so got to
carry all our stuff,at the ground i put my bag in a pile of freshly spat
out chewing gum, thank you I say.
Sitting down we meet up with Kimmy, her sister(Karen),her
partner(John) and their daughter, We have a chat, and i forgot i'm doing the report, so up to 8
overs, nothing to report on . ( moderators note you're fired. Then again one moderator only remembers at end of game they're doing report, you're rehired)
The Middle are batting, with Newman/Warner opening and Hendo is in
the side,after 8 overs its 52 without loss,Newman 24,Warner 22.
My usual trick takes place, I visit the toilet and we lose a
wicket,i must stop doing this (moderators note- MTWD ASBO for Beefy banned from loo while Middx batting) I think, it's 75-1 Warner gone for 24, a
wicket for our old boy,Dalrymple. After 11 overs we are 77-1, Newman hits 2
sixes off Will Owen, then another wicket Newman goes for 48, caught and
bowled by Croft, bringing Malan in. Its 100-2 off 14 overs, slow batting
and i say we need to open up a bit th only 5 overs left.
Captain for his first game, Dexter is in and he gets a few runs
including a cracking six over the bowlers head. With just 4 overs left
it is 118-2, Dexter then gets another six into the main grandstand (named
the daffodil stand, after those seats). With 18 overs gone, its 140-2 and our Captain needs to change his
bat, probably wrecked it with the sixes, not to be outdone,AC gets a
six, helped over the boundary by some dodgy fielding. Score reaches 152-2
off 19,captain Dext sends a lovely shot (can't remember to what part of
the ground),he is happily dropped to a cheer from us,and the AC sends
the ball out of the ground into the River Taff, we finish on 166-2 not a
bad score I say. ( moderators note with Ceefax view 2 wickets lost surely something closer to 200 par score)
It's turning out to a reunion day. Finny walking round signing
autographs, I say give us our player back, you ECB silly people,or words
that effect. With Hendo and Kev's favourite wicketkeeper back as well.
Dexter leads our team out. We start with Super Ped from the River Taff end,and Murts from the
Cathedral Road end, change of bowling straight away, Hendo from River Taff
end.
At that point I ask John( Kimmy's sisters partner) if he would like
to do the report,it's his first ever game of cricket so will be fine to
take over from me! His comment was " The guy in the pink threw the ball
to the bloke in red who hit it and ran " hope that's clear enough he
said. ( moderators note- you're hired for future reports if we are really desperate)
Back to me,Hendo's first over was a bit expensive 15 off it, just a
loosener I hope. Glam are on 7.1 runs an over and its 50 off 5.1
overs, it's my time to pay a visit and we all know what happens when that
is done, and it does! A wicket they are 56-1 a Hendo wicket Cosker has
gone.
Smith comes on from Cathedral Road end to Allenby and I think it's
not looking good they are on 79-1 off 8 overs.
They move onto 90-1 off 10 run rate 7.7 then Maynard hits Super Ped
into the Daffodil stand for 6, a much needed wicket its 110-2 taken
again by Hendo c Shah it moves onto 127-2 off 14 overs, run rate of 8.0.
Ace takes an over from Cathedral Road end, Maynard goes after him big
time hitting everywhere 11 off the over its 138-2 off 16,29 for them to
get I say come on lads, a tight over please Super Ped,a wicket goes its
141-3 Rees LBW by Super Ped ,it's not looking good and defeat looms. Sadly Smith gets hit for 6 into River Taff end,I say that' s it,report over
at 162-3 and notepad goes into bag.
After the game, get a call from Diamond tells Ken and myself the pub
himself and his Welsh mate Dave are in. We decide to meet up,and have a
couple of pints to let the crowd from cricket go, and the crowd for the
music in the stadium to arrive.
Ken and myself go to the station, train to Bristol and hope that
Sunday brings a win ( moderators note- if only). Meeting Kimmy and Kev,Roy and Darren there should be
a good time.
Suprised you remembered that much Beefy , thank God for reporters notepads . Malans 6 into the Taff (through the only gap in the stands) was something special though .
Nice report on a good evening out , only spoilt for me by lodgeing with a Welshman giving it "large" for the next 24hrs .
Natalya... My niece's name... such a cutie... Really wanted me to take her red flag home.... and she really struggled as pink is her favourite colour! Bess she's 4 the middle of July!!
An error on my behalf,i put a Glam player as Cosker, who,of course doesnt play for Glamorgan.I did mean slimmer of the year Cosgrove.Sorry for any confusion made!
