Missed you

Barmy Kev gives a partial radio view of yet another 20/20 defeat , with technical distractions in the background.  You can decide whether the nature of Kev's technical faux pas, Middlesex defeat or the one-eyed commentary is the most painful. Take some medication first and then read on.

Normally when Middlesex play a game regardless of the competition or whether I can attend I get a kind of buzz on the day. This was one game that I really couldn’t get excited about in any way.   I was also due to go out from 7:30pm so wouldn’t be able to follow match through.

Jonathan Winsky in fact put the thread up day before the game, thanks JW. From my I Phone, which is very touch sensitive, I edited to make it a Sticky.  I thought I’d add a comment on thread during day.   I saw no activity on thread, wasn’t sure if there was anything of value to add so I thought I’d leave it.

In fact I was so sidetracked with personal stuff, I saw time was 6:15 without any contact with goings-on with match underway for 45 mins.  There was no London commentary so had to tune to Radio Bristol. When switched on, Chas Taylor is out stumped for 51, he always seems to get good scores against us.  

I then look at MTWD and realise, I must have inadvertently closed thread on game when editing from my phone.  Sorry folks. I re-open it and some MTWD activity follows.

Meanwhile Glous are 94-3 from 13 overs. I would say that’s average, but the Bris commentators thought this was good. It appeared they were talking relatively as apart from the games against us, their 20/20 season has been as dire as ours.  It became more and more evident that these commentators were very biased and used every opportunity to slag us off.   The amount of non Middx born players was mentioned and even with game marginally in Glous favour were talking of us as wooden spoonists. I was really missing Kevin Hand who is not afraid to be critical of us, or our opposition where relevant, but no pun intended he is even handed with his views.

 As 4th wicket fell was looking at 140 score. Having not followed early stages was shocked to see Kevin O’Brien in next. The carnage at Uxbridge was fresh in my mind.  Dial M drops in commentators’ words “ a routine caught and bowled” and typically thereafter more inevitable carnage.   Like Sorry away, a 140 looking score ended up 160+.

The Mrs comes home and we are about to leave to go out in 15 mins just as our innings starts. Before we leave she wanted to download something from one of her devices to our main PC.   This didn’t effect me hearing commentary but I only concentrated on our reply about 10 minutes into innings, when heard Rogers and Rymps in, I wasn’t sure where we were.  When Rogers out was relieved this was only the 1^st wicket, but when heard only 4 runs in 3^rd over knew this was going to be a major struggle.  Meanwhile the Mrs downloads weren’t responding, like Middlesex I guess.  

Back to the one eyed commentary. Newman was able to accelerate a touch, but each boundary was described as “hoik” or something ungainly.  When he was out they did recognise AC as danger man.    They said he has 1 ton in 20/20 against Lancashire, but oh for a Kevin Hand to elaborate on nature and significance of this innings. Meanwhile Rymps as trying to push along was really in the firing line from commentators, describing his shots as “unorthodox” and said “ If a village cricketer was watching he’d be appalled that he is not out yet."  Once Malan was out game over, if only we can leave but Mrs still unable to download.  The commentators already decided Scollay not up to job and under difficult situation, perhaps wasn’t , but don’t blame him.  Then we realised why PC wasn’t responding to downloads, the Mrs discovered the cable not plugged into back of computer like it normally is, as my camera cable was there to download picies for Dasher’s report yesterday.   Oh dear. Anyway download swiftly done, we can leave to go out. As putting jacket on, Rymps (quote “ put out of his misery”) and Scollay out in successive balls.  McLaren coming in to bat limping. No chance for us.   Cheerio, we’re late.

Came back to discover inevitable defeat and ironically some comments on MTWD that weren’t to dissimilar from those Gaga commentators views,
