The equation started out as simple. Sorry need 46 runs to win and Middlesex need 6 wickets. Sorry clear favourites at this stage. But we have a wicket with demons anything could happen. I was hoping for a miracle especially as after todays play we were due to celebrate Beefy's birthday and we can't really celebrate properly over a defeat to our local rivals.
Normally attending a 4 day game at Lords on a Sunday I tend to arrive late. With only about an hours play anticipated I arrive just on time. I found it a lot easier getting to Taunton promptly the previous week.
First ball. I shout a hatrick would be useful. They survived 1st over with a scampered single. 2nd over first ball a quick single to Corey direct hit loud appeal not out. From my vantage point square on looked like bat was not grounded. This followed a loud LBW shout, not given. Square on looked out , but then it would from our point. A series of quick singles followed, it just looked like was not going to be our day. As thinking this, Maynard looked out plum LBW and given. Where there's life there's hope. As Jordan comes in Lower Pav shouts "typical Surrey all rounder can't bat, can't bowl". Hmm. Shhh.. Pressure on as Simmo is standing up to Murts and Lower Pav is right Jordan clean bowled. It was observed he took longer going to and from the Pavillion then spent in the middle. With Batty out LBW it's 104-7, 9-3 for day 37 needed game on.
Jon Lewis comes out, let's hope there's not a new John Lewis partnership we can't afford. An edge through non existent 2nd slip for 2 doesn't help the nerves. A swipe for by Jon Lewis goes high through 3rd man for 1st boundary of the day. Jon Lewis had the idea of hitting hard confidently. With 15 needed and TRJ seeming to be struggling we lose faith, Then of TRJ bowling ,RHB is crucially caught behind. Put that on your scorecard word for word.
It then seemed to be case of Sorry picking off easy singles as field was back. Was reminded by a Sorry, or was it a Middle fan 2 sixes, will do it with 2 wickets left, as target was being closed in. Go for the 2 6's we shout. Linley was playing and missing and eventually thank f that caught at slip. It was down Dernbach at end. A few more singles and a LBW shout not given. With 4 needed third man was disposed of. One big swipe off edge we lose. Everyone on boundary with Jon Lewis facing, he trusts Dernbach and goes for single. 3 needed. If only he can Dernbach time, a big slog of Murts bowling Robbo running in, yours mine, no yours, my head in my hands, Robbo eventually somehow caught it although not sure who did at time. Mass celebration followed in ground. I hugged every Midle fan around me. Who says County Cricket is boring.
Then in Tavern celebration with some players present seeing on Sky all the wickets again being showed. Worth watching again. To top it all, we hear Sorry deducted a point for slow over rate, does it get any better for us.

A great report Kev. That last catch was unbelievable. I think I screamed.'SOMEBODY' as for a horrible split second it seemed everybody was leaving it to somebody else. Robbo dramatically dived and caught the ball and then Glorious Mayhem Mayhem Mayhem. I hugged everybody in my vicinity.It was like The Rose Bowl revisited.
An amazing game,and was pleasently surprised on size of the crowd for last day.
This result will give a great confidence boost,as Kev said above 'who said county cricket is boring'.
And,to see everyone with huge smiles on faces walking around the ground was great.
And to the slurrey guy who gave Diamond and myself a few verbals walking behind the grandstand before the days play..........CHEERS MATE!

Can anyone clarify if they saw some truly gratuitous bouts of obscene celebration going on, involving the kissing of a piece of protective headgear by anyone?
Great report Kev. Shame I only saw two sessions.
The wicket was described as the ' worst ever Lord's pitch' by the oppo's DoC.
He seemed happy enough on days 1,2 and 3. All matches in both divs produced results I think, and most were of the low scoring variety..
As Dex was quoted ' when he dismissed the comments, saying no wicket was gonna be hard at this time of year.
The wicket was fine. Good bowling and some poor shot selection was his verdict'.
This quote appeared in the Kate Laven report btw. TeleSport S17.
