ROD ED SUMMARISES HIS MEANS FOR MAKING IT TO OLD TRAFFORD IN GLOOMY CONDITIONS AND THOUGHTS ON GAME WITH SOME PHOTOS. THIS IS A GOOD ALBEIT BELATED READ.
Living in Scotland and supporting Middlesex is not easy. Attending matches has to be planned well in advance and pot luck taken with the weather. This year our family holiday was to be camping in Devon so it seemed an ideal opportunity to break the journey north with a Middlesex game and the CB40 at Old Trafford chosen.
After an overnight stop in Chepstow, the entire journey was spent in driving rain with no breaks in the grey clouds to be seen. We had reserved a room with balcony at the Old Trafford Lodge for B&B for myself, wife and 9 year old son for the grand total of £79 whch included match tickets which would have cost us £42. The room was compact but spotless and gave a magnificent view of the ground. The only downside was the noise of the demolition of the old pavillion. At present the the two "turretts" remain, I hope they are to be retained in some form.
About 3.30 the rain seemed to stop, altho' the the sky was just as grey, so the job of cover removal and mopping up started. Due to the noise of the pneumatic drills I could not hear the post toss interviews but gathered Morgan was to be replaced, so that info had to be sourced from the Message board and also from the Sky commentary back in the room.

With the match being on TV, and well covered on the message board, I'll not cover the match details but just give a few of my thoughts.
The toss and subsequent conditions worked against us but, like 2020, we seem to find the boundary less than our oppo.
The batting order seemed most odd. Proper cricket shots usually do the needful yet Rogers, Simmo, and Dexter were held back.
Why, when we still had a slim chance near the end, was a sodden ball handed to a part time leg spinner?
I know it was gloomy and wet but, standing up to Berg, Simmo seemed to parry more than he caught. Sky were re-running the 2020 glory days and the keeping of Ben Scott up to the stumps is worth the admission money anywhere.
In the morning the continental breakfast was magnificent with plentiful selections.Whilst at breakfast I met a Middx member who had been at Euston when the annoucment to change stations was made.He decided against it and instead of leaving at 12noon he just had to wait till 12.40 ! All in all it was an enjoyable stay and I'd thoroughly recommend the Lodge.
Next up for me and my young Middx supporting son will be the Championship match v Durham. If it's raining we can stay at home!

Thanks Rod. It was my fault this not up sooner, but hope you all enjoy this summary. I have been promised a report from Chelmsford which will no doubt be up after Cheltenham.

Gosh, Old Trafford was never the most attractive of grounds, but now it's really ugly, isn't it?!!!
I'd been planning on attending that one, but was put off by the weather forecast. I'm going to Durham though whatever the weather. See you there!

Your thoughts on the boundary count and the batting order resonate with many Rod.
