Today is a very sad day for cricket. To respect the passing away of Philip Hughes here is an account of his incredible short Middlesex CCC association
Phillip Hughes was signed for Middlesex in 2009 prior to the Ashes series. At the time the appointment was controversial as was felt it would give him ideal preparation of English conditions. Well he scored 574 runs for us in his 3 games at an average of 143.5. This form didn't quite transfer into the Ashes series and he struggled during the series. It was rumoured Andrew Strauss found him out while with us.
Phil became known to the MTWD faithful on our trip to Edinburgh. We were on the same plane as the players for the journey both ways. As a 20 year old it was noticeable how well he mingled with players always smiling and joking. He got to know of our presence and on journey back every time I passed him he would shout "come on the Middle" or Middle Middle Middle". I remember that infectious cheeky smile.
2 years ago a trip to Worcester in a 40 over match he scored the ton that rescued them from trouble and won them the game. I remember at time saying to our crowd we were beaten by a class act.
It is so sad to think that it was thought his test career was on the verge of being revived and then tragedy struck. He achieved so much but there was more unfulfilled potential.
He will be fondly remembered by Middlesex and missed by many. Phillip Hughes Rest in Peace.

I see that you had the funeral telecast, so will just provide some notes from what I saw at the SCG with some photos.

Well,i think, at our first game of season, the first Middlesex player to reach 63 should get a huge round of applause as a fitting tribute to Phillip.

Sean Abbott ... has already played one ODI and three Twenty20 internationals for Australia, all of which came in the last two months [at the time of me writing this post], so it is very much within the realms of possibility that he can make further international appearances in his career
