Our Leprachaun reports on the forum with questions close to most of our hearts raised and answered with a straight bat.
After a frustrating day (-4 overrate, umpires hanging around to 6 just to abandon play) it was not surprising that the turnout for the forum was distinctively lower then usual. Possibly also helped by our positive position in both competitions so far. But that helped make for a slightly more informal atmosphere.
We had a good range of questions, starting inevitability with that darned over rate. Actually 'just' minus 3 according to "Don the Wizard. Stop faffing about was the solution from the top table but they can't control what the players do on the field was the caveat.
We then had cricketing questions ranging from Franklin's role in the side: not bowling well enough to get through the overs we were hoping for. But don't forget he won the game at Somerset for us how many matches
Eoin Morgan was likely to miss: only a couple of one day games but four or five Championship.
Is Tim Murtagh fit. Getting there and Ireland have called on him as a contracted player for the match this week which is part of the Test match qualification. Ireland have agreed to manage his bowling to see if he can play at Headingley. So if you thought the Malan/Morgan/Dexter/Gubbins selection as tricky, who gives way for him.
Who is Nathan Sowter? A leg spinner contracted for T20s to the end of June because of Ravi's injury. Offers something different to Ollie.
Why no Malan in current side? We have won 3 out of 4 games. They deserve another chance. Followed by some debate about the merits of Malan v Morgan. I will not comment on the merits of that debate!
Non cricketing issues. The lack of public information on the new partnership agreement with MCC. Noted and will be addressed as soon as possible.
Press reports re T20 franchises, 12 match Championship etc. Don't believe what you read. There are no firm proposals for anything yet. (I do believe that reassurance)
ICC cricket committee have looked at the suggestion for four day Tests. There is no appetite for that. Andrew Strauss has resigned from our Executive Board. New secondment to be announced soon but we will like it.
Why no Malan in our side was bought up again as forum was very close to closing.
