Kev reports on day of partnerships, collapses , poor overweight and plenty of wine. What's new?
The weather and nothing seemingly in the match really didn't inspire me for today. My decision to book 2 days off for this match not the best but that's the chance you take.
I missed the first session. Amongst my morning tasks was to collect the player of month award trophy to present to King Harry at the sponsors party. On route was checking score and saw Robbo out for 30 and was praying perhaps for the sanity of website Moggy wouldn't fail. Fortunately no alarms to lunch and was not surprised to hear from my Jubilee Line view play stopped due to bad light.
Had nice affordable lunch at cafe by the ground, certainly better value than any eateries at ground. Arrived at ground with better conditions but covers still on. It was nice to see was it was Inclusion day with close to 1,000 kids with disabilities seeming to enjoy themselves in and around ground.
Play restarted at 2. The 50 partnership between Moggy and Compo was greeted by applause of approx 50 spectators present. Further boundaries were ecstatically cheered by a group of kids. You guessed it as Moggy looking comfortable on 44 an injudicious hook straight into fielder’s hand who was down there for that shot. Had it been 5 yards or more either side would have been shot of the match. Franklin is now bowled for 0 and I'm looking at follow on score. There was predicted rain at 3pm so typically at that time the sun makes its first appearance of the day. Meanwhile the following on is saved with an edged single which,I was only one applauding. I can relax now which was just as well as disappointingly Compo out hooking for 74 when looked well set against the expensive Rankin. SImmo, Ollie and Harry didn't last long giving out some catching practice. At tea 212 8, 20-4 since avoiding the follow-on.
Was watching after tea from Seaxe Box mainly concentrating on England last wicket stand whether they can get 200 runs to win the test. They just failed while TRJ and Dext made batting easy and took us to extra batting point. His 32 was useful but was 3rd out hooking. Finn sadly couldn't allow Dext to get 50 was given out LBW. He was not happy with decision. 260 all out
In reply Finn less happy as had 2 LBW shouts turned down in his 1st over. Jiwad soon out caught at slip. Harry bowled Webby but OR -4. Big cheer when Dext on. Just get on with it please. There was oh dear a bad dropped catch. The Bores not pushing it , no more wickets and a farce situation of at 7:10 players go off with four balls left of the day as the sun came out. Over rate now -3
So there was the Sponsors cheese and wine party. Wine flowing, some careless whispers. Vinny and Gus stating the game is balance when seemed dead to me. I was told by a player not to panic about over rate. Highlight was presenting Harry with his award. He thanked me and I thanked him., he thanked me back and so on. Well I thought it was funny at time. More wine please waiter.
