Franklin Speaking the Wicket's Overated

Huddle for Harry's 50th w

By BarmybKev

Barmy Kev's version of events on the 2nd day which is a mix of our good play, bad rain and that ugly over rate again. More play then we would have got at Lords and more rain then we wanted. But a deent position for day  apart from the you know what.

Overnight we are on 312/7 which when we are 165/7 we could only dream of. 350 is gettable and we are looking at a career best for Harry (87) and record 8th wicket stand ( 182 in 1913; Seaxe Man was there.) Yesterday I applauded Mala's career best 2 balls too late, will I get another chance for a timely milestone applause?

AC started continuing from where he left off: solid defence and exquisitely punishing the bad ball.for 4. Two landmarks quickly achieved_150 partnership and and from a glorious cover drive by Harry; at 333 these 2 have more than doubled our score. With partnership on 175 Harry is clean bowled for 73. No records broken but what a valuable innings; a massive contribution to our cause and he was applauded off by sporting Notts fans too

TRJ hit a quick fire 14 off 9 balls to take us pass 350 and you never know maybe 400 by 110 overs. it was not totally bad news when TRJ was LBW as this ball showed there was movement in the pitch. It was thought at one stage AC would be stranded on 100 as we try to make 200 but it now ended up him short of 200 as we fail to make 400. Dial M was out for 12; AC stranded on 182. We are 374 all out with 3rd top scorer extras 27 and Notts OR by Middlesex standards a respectable -2.

We face 2 overs and the expected rain started at 12.15. Good news our OR is still 0. Now this is ridiculous at 12.30 it was announced lunch will be taken 12.45. There is no rain between 1;00 and 1;25 when we could have been playing and there is rain predicted early this afternoon.

Fair play to umps they kept them on during more than light rain and with floodlights on. No early dramas for either side and our OR is 0 after 16 overs. Then Sir Harry bowls Hillingdon born Hales played on. His 50th wicket this year

TRJ bought on and straight away our OR -1 and soon after -2. Franklin strolling back looks like will be -3 but is now forgiven when has Lumb out caught behind for 9.

It rains heavily 3.25 and umpires sensibly call for tea straight away. 96 -2 and we were disappointed as  hoping to make more inroads in their batting.

At tea we heard in Dext hit 6 sixes in the last over for the 2nds I don't know who the bowler was or the length of boundary at obscure Glous venue but we won and feel this achievement should be recognised here.

Straight after tea Notts were batting comfortably. We then had the odd situation of break for bad light despite floodlights being on and then coming back 10 minutes later with light seemingly the same. Play continued and we can guess  what was to follow. They were Ironic cheers when our OR reached -3 . This caused a steward to tell us to keep the noise down. The game seems to be going nowhere then   1 leads to 2 Franklin bowls Taylor and same over Wessels caught and bowled. 145-4 seems better. There was polite applause for overrate - 4 with some expletives muttered under our breath. Ollie was bought on for short spell and replaced by TRJ,

The score moves on to 184/4. Light was adjudged dark which saves us from -5 OR if we carry on at this rate. No more play with 16 overs lost. Don's magic wand gets the OR to -3.

Positives

Later order runs gives us another bonus point

Dawid  Malan's bating

Franklin 2 wickets in 2 overs

Negatives

Weather curtailing play

7 runs short of record 8th wicket partnership

This over rate situation FFS sort it .

What amazed me and everyone else, was when our dreaded OR got to -3,we eventually called for Ollie to bowl from Ratcliffe Road end to try and reduce it.
But, Our Arry was replaced by TRJ at the Pavilion end.

Think we are going to be blighted by poor weather today, but well documented Kev as usual.

Accurate summation Kev. Thought umpires did well playing through the drizzle.

As we now know, the ball boomed around for 1st two sessions on Sunday but largely ceased thereafter.
