Beefy decribes the action of today which contained little cricket but we hear plenty of umpires, groundstaff toing and froing. We can witness proof of an overated positive and hear some fetching socks on route home home.   

At 11.05, I saw the most amazing sight of +1 on the scoreboard for us

Yesterday there was 600 at game. The lights were on but hardly anyone in today. After 6 wicket-less overs the covers on and ground staff in no rush, but rain has stopped. Umpires walking back on and had quick chat with ground staff who stay un-moved. Umpires stop by the boundary, look around and head back to the hover cover and stand around chatting to ground staff. Umpires come back…again rain starts to fall. The main cover pipes are pulled out, main blankets are pulled out. Prospect of play doesn’t look good and I’m only here to lunch.  (Thanks to tube strike) Early lunch at 12.40 but with murky clouds moving in from the west don’t look good.

Slowly the few people here are moving away, taking a glance at the test match, and then heading for the exits, will they return? Middlesex followers are heading home, to beat the upcoming travel problems with draw written all over game.

The rain is now driving across the ground from left to right and the ground staff are pulling more blankets out. Looks like the end is near so I’m heading to the station early. On the bus over River Trent and it looks grim… will there be any play at all?

As I paid slightly more for 1^st class travel, decided to go freeloading in the lounge, coffee, biscuit area and one gentleman reading paper gives everyone a glare as we walk in the lounge. I take a glance at him, and see he is wearing the most fetching socks, made in same style as a cricket jumper of the past years. At least the tennis is on I start watching until realising it’s a replay of previous match.

I only saw 6 uneventful overs.  As I headed home I heard play had started and we managed an honourable draw.
