Long day in the rain


Much needed today

Dasher Dennign gives us an evocative report on a day hanging about in the rain.  A day many cricket followers will recognise. Thanks for the pictiures to enliven things.

We set off in hope, the BBC online weather forecast showing one raindrop until 11am then a dark but dropless cloud for the rest of the day. With hindsight, we should have seen the writing on the wall when the local Spar refused to serve us alcoholic provisions for the day at 9am.

In the end, we sat under a tree for 5-6 hours watching it drizzle before heading to a pub in Northwood for some more Thatchers. In the absence of any play, here's a pictorial summary of the day:

1. Nice of them to signpost the way

2. A pleasant stroll through the woods.

3. The smallest stand in the world, on wheels. We decided against a rousing chorus of Matthew Maynard's barmy army just in case it rolled off down the hill. (note - sadly a tehcnical difficulty means no picture of the stand



4. Somerset won on umbrellas. We get bonus points for that, yes?


5. The ice cream van wasn't overwhelmed with business. He jingled off into the "sunset" at about 3pm.
