Kev summarises the events of a great victory for the Middle
I arrive at Hove 20 minutes late. Again we are batting first having been put in . Relieved no wickets down on arrival and our run rate quicker than the train rate. Infact we are off to another flyer. Stirlo needed a runner due to injured knee who happened to be the Rabbit like for like between the wickets. 1st wicket down Gubbo at 198. Rumour has it at this stage Kevin Hand thought 1000 was on I would have settled for 350. Moggie promoted hit some big 6s but was largely in his shell. Stirlo hobbling took us to 228 before out for 116, his dismissal was a relief due to his clear pain. Simmo further promoted was struggling dropped 3 times, some thought deliberately to keep rate down. Our last 10 overs produced 60 runs total 288 against some good death bowling especially from Sharma. This total looked short of par with 4 wickets down. The mood amongst the Middle faithful not good.
The reply was loss of two early wickets by Finn who at times was unplayable With Helm at other end economical the match seemed out of Sussex reach early on. Clusters of wickets with Ravi proving difficult to play. There was a late cameo from Burgess and Wiese. With 10 an over required with 15 overs to go and 6 wickets down our target was becoming gettable. Like with Kent game a late order collapse made the victory look more comfortable. The final wicket produced a Middle Middle Middle chant and ecstatic celebrations,
A few celebatory drinks followed. It was a great day out in good company. It was really encouraging seeing us performing so well for 3rd game in a row . We are well placed to qualify
Another good performance Kev,with us fielding I was impressed with the constant change of bowlers, not allowing the batsmen to settle.
Sharp fielding,Gubbo standing out again,he gets better each game.
Must admit,we thought possibly 20-30 runs short....what do we know!
Couple of ales after, and thanks to Kev and RnO for hanging back for me on journey home...back and leg problems hampered me all day, making it uncomfortable watching (not the game, just me!)
