Our final caption competition before the season starts. Adelaide having won the last round has the honour of judging ,please feel free to enter and vote for yourself. Thank you Beefy for your picture taken in the USA and to me for sharing my dilemma on way to Hove last season.
I think this is inappropiate using the signpost for the Samaritans as a prop for your caption competition.
You will be aware I am sure that the Samaritans is a registered charity aimed at providing emotional support to anyone in emotional distress, struggling to cope, or at risk of suicide throughout the United Kingdom and Ireland.
Think about the suicide over the weekend by Mike Thalassatis at the age of 26. Suicide is the biggest killer of men under the age of 40. Albert Trott a Middlesex and England cricketer committed suicide at the age of 41.
I have consulted my co-moderator and we apologise for any offence that this has caused. Our intention is not to trivalise serious issues. It was the irony of the signpost that this caption was based on.
We would be concerned and take action if any of the entries were inappropraite or offensive but we believe that this has not happened so far.
Caption 1: "Predicted fall of first wicket unreasonably makes no allowance for "Handling of Ball", "Obstructing the Field", "Hit Ball Twice" and LBW.
Caption 2: "Lack of punctuation undermines my early season exhortation for optimism, but Simmo takes the route to victory nonetheless, with boundary, boundary, maximum off the last three balls".

First sign. Consideration has been for this sign to go up by Lord's for proper cricket followers once the 100 ball starts. (They decided against it as there are more important things in life for the Samaritan's to deal with)
I am resisting the temptation to award it to Middleman (whose general point I very much take) but instead am going for Kev's very first entry for Sign 1 - "Does Kev go for the best possible help due to his desparate situation or does he go to the Samaritans instead?" Point deducted for spelling, mind.
I'm a bit surprised that nobody tried to use the link rumoured a couple of months ago between Middlesex and Shai Hope as an overseas player. A rumour purely based on Law having coached the West Indies team, methinks.
