Diamond remembered

Kev gives his take on our impressive but not always likely victory against Worcestershire. 

1^st day was potentially my last day of cricket for the season depending on many factors.  With the sun shining I was looking forward to another episode of the Last of Summer Wine. Despite a disappointing 144 total we should be grateful for Max half century.   The old phrase never judge a wicket till both sides bat on it came to mind especially when Worcs were 48-6. There was a partial recovery, but I was most disappointed that the umps were keen to go off with 12 overs left.    I felt the option of spin could have at least been offered.   I was hoping to go to meet the players` event, which previous years I have done on spec. It was sold out and for obvious reasons no flexibility re numbers. However, it was great catching up with Don Shelley in The Tavern. The guy is an absolute legend.    

Day 2 I was not planning on attending due to other commitments. Beefy reminded me it was Diamond day. One day a season we remember our friend Diamond and raise a glass in his memory so I am now making an effort, to be there.  From my first remote view of the game an hour gone Worcs had overtaken our total and I was dismayed to find Baker scored 5 dozens +. Matters were made worse when in response we lost 4 early wickets. We were the equivalent of 12-4. It was realistic to think we could lose today. My arrival was as we were reconciling. A series of partnerships and the lead is 200 and we are now favourites. 

Day 3 I was never able to attend. There was predicted rain with percentage increasing checking forecast as the game was progressing.  Unfortunately when the heavy rain stopped in the afternoon and it was sunny in Edgware there was light drizzle in St John`s Wood and no play. A game that looked like it might be over in two days could potentially end up as a draw.       

Day 4 all results were possible. Our late order collapse I felt was positive as showed there is still something in the pitch and a draw is unlikely.    I texted Rogers and Out stating this, with Worcestershire quickly on 12-0 he indicated this looks a Worcs win.    Then both openers out. My vantage point this stage was on my own Grandstand and I was observing how Murts was geeing up the players. ` One more before lunch`, which happened.  After lunch I joined Rogers and Out and Phil the Power. I was still not over confident with 116 needed with 5 wickets in hand. We have lost a few times this season from such a position.  In no time Worsc crumbled and we ended up a comfortable win.  Had some celebratory drinks in The Tavern. I was hoping players would be present but I guess protocol prevented them.
