With the Cricket season now over, Barmy Kev has turned into sensible Kev and come up with his ratings for the squad. Andrew Strauss Rating 8

Batting Av. CC. 51.88, NCL 31.27

Certainly gone from strength to strength this season. Deserved his England call up, albeit surprisingly in the ODI squad. Played a number of crucial innings, especially second innings. Still lots to learn in captaincy front (e.g. Bloomers bowling at end against Lanky) but certainly went long way in help achieving near NUL promotion and CC safety.


Sven Koenig Rating 7

Batting Av. CC 40.58. NCL N/A

Often painful to watch and correctly overlooked in 1 day games, but is the player we can most rely on not to give wicket away. Oddly did not reach a ton this year. Very good foil for Strauss.


Ben Hutton Rating 7

Batting Av. CC 41.50, NCL 21.83
Bowling Av. CC 61.40 NCL no wickets

The actual statistics into our Hutton inquiry are misleading. Wasted at 8 early season and although not prolific with ball proved a useful partnership breaker and underused. Scored a crucial ton against Sorry and won our first two NCL games of the last ball. Batted too low down in NCL to have chance of good batting average.


Owais Shah Rating 6

Batting Av. CC 37.07 NCL 40.93

Very inconsistent and often careless. Rush of blood at Sussex costly. Still showed signs of class with some excellent knocks. Proved again to be capable of being a very destructive 1-day batsman. E.g. crucial knock against Hants. However, has batted his way out of England reckoning and needs to work on concentration.

There were certainly signs of his promise and saved his best performances for the TV cameras. Did manage a number of very low scores and his laid back attitude does seem to give cause for concern. Can't take his bowling seriously, but did manage to knock Judas on head with his dolly drops.

Some may think I have been too generous with my rating for an overseas player that got sacked, but bear in mind 3 NCL match winning performances and a match saving innings at Guilford. His call-ups for Mickey Mouse tournaments at his age gave him a ridiculous travelling schedule, which made it difficult to consistently perform with bat and ball. While his bowling was laboured, his one day batting was explosive and I am convinced we would have gone up if we could have kept him just for 1 days at end.


Robin Weston Rating 5

Batting Av. CC 18.50, NCL 18.00

Although a very mediocre season again, unlucky to be released. Only had 1 CC game and didn't do a great deal wrong in 1day (including 20/20s) batting low down. Was dropped very harshly.


Paul Weekes Rating 5

Bowling Av. CC 41.32, NCL 37.65

Sadly there was a decline in his batting from last years standards and his role as frontline spinner, with the Cat's exit, too much to ask. Never looked capable of bowling teams out. His 1day batting as opener was a revelation even if occasionally got bogged down and bowling was reliable. See him more as 1day player next season and not a permanent CC fixture.


Jamie Darymple Rating 4

Batting Av. CC 13.44, NCL 21.33
Bowling Av. CC 72.85, NCL 31.90

He found the gulf between Uni and C/C very high and struggled with transition. Strauss reluctant to use him and proved some potential by destroying Notts. Useful all-round one day contribution, as a hard hitter and economical bowler.


David Nash Rating 6

Batting Av. CC 41.94, NCL 22.9

Failed in experiment of batting up the order early season and did better with the older ball batting at 7 and 8 and had an excellent July. Hit superb ton under pressure against Kent. Was picked as a specialist batsmen in 1days pre-season and did useful job of rotating strike. Had a few shockers behind the stumps, whilst capable of being spectacularly successful.


David Alleyne Rating 4

Just played in one day games as a wasted player with Nashie in side and didn't bat. His keeping was adequate, and put pressure on standing up,despite some fumbles.


Ashley Noffke Rating 6

Bowling Av. CC 35.94, NCL 31.5

Overall disappointing and but had his fair share of bad luck on unhelpful pitches. Redeemed himself with a match winning performance with bat and ball against Notts. Being injury prone is a worry for next season.


Simon Cook Rating 4

Overall a big disappointment with only flashes of class. His major asset was some good steadying innings in 1 days and an all round match-winning performance in C&G at Northampton. Was lucky to be retained for so many games in CC.

Easily most improved player. If only he could sustain his early brilliance for finishing teams off. As well as his much improved batting, which earned us crucial bonus points, his infectious enthusiasm in the field seemed to have a positive effect on team. Altogether now- Luv it!

Can't fault Joe's enthusiasm and was instrumental in our useful start to season. Did a good coaching job when surplus to requirements. Was, as stats clearly show a 1-day liability.


Tim Bloomfield Rating 5

Bowling Av. CC 42.83 NCL 27.84

Was injured for most of season, but still very disappointing in CC. Re NCL, took the blame for Lanky defeat, but won us the game against Durham and bowled brilliantly in subsequent games at Somerset and Derby. His batting has improved so can still prove to be an asset.


Imran Tahir Rating -1

Bowling Av. CC196. Did not take wicket in NCL in 6 overs

A poor choice as temporary replacement for Razza to fill Tuffer's role. (He was an inadequate celebrity replacement, get him out of here!) Looked dodgy in C&G game, but we got away with him, but did not perform in the couple of games after. Negative mark due to preventing us having a further overseas signing when we were caught short in August.
