Mark Alleyne made amends for his strange declaration yesterday by inspiring Gloucestershire to a fine 78 run victory at Southgate. Alleyne scored 93 as Gloucestershire made 272-7 and then Middlesex scored 194-8 for the second consecutive one-day game at Southgate. Middlesex had started well as Jones and Laraman both took a wicket to leave Gloucestershire 9-2. However, a fine partnership of 94 between Spearman and Hancock recovered the innings before Mark Alleyne and Alex Gidman smashed a 114 stand to put the game firmly in Gloucestershire’s favour.

Middlesex needed a good start, but three wickets from James Averis left them 56-4, a position they never recovered from. Paul Weekes was the only man to pass 30 as he made 53 not out, sharing in an unbroken 50 stand for the ninth wicket with Alan Coleman.
