Pepsi MAX outdone by Patel MIN

52 in vain

Barmy Paul (with some editting from Barmy Kev) describes another crushing humliating 20/20 defeat for Middx. The main difference being Patel Mininimising runs conceded as opposed to our Pepsi Max.

Arrived later than expected due to a s***  London Underground system and immediately abused Turkey no. 1, who is paid for sorting out our underground.

When I got there it was a nice sunny evening and then found out Middlesex had yet lost another toss. Could we be chasing yet another 200 plus total. One change Godleman in for Keegan.  (In line with Ged suggestion). As the start of the game got nearer the Turkey fan club and noise levels started to get louder much to the emabarrassment of Mr and Mrs Nash.

1st over was a great over bowled by Silvers for 2. Was this the start of things to come?   Then Godleman misses a catch of Styris in the 4th over-perhaps mind on homework. After the 5th over Kent were 41 without loss. 7th over Compo drops a sitter of Pepsi.  Pepsi figures so far were 2 overs for 31. Pepsi had not given Max effort today. Soon after that Compo catches an absolute scream but unfortunately falls over the rope. Next ball Stevens hits Weekesey for 6.  Then our demon bowler Ace slows things down (another Ged suggestion- are you watching Embrury? ).  Highlight was Styris throwing at the stumps and misses then hits the umpire who goes flying and lands on his ass. Kent ended up with 182 gettable we think so.

Unfortunately, Kev and me were late for the start. Kev said I bet we have missed the first over. I reply we must have missed Smith get out a funnily Ed the duck was out for 0.   Soon after we lost Compo.  It was up to our best two batsmen Ace and Styris and they put on 63 at reasonable pace, but were both out holing out in deep and no Middx like juggling acts.  Eoin Morgan provided a few fireworks as me and Kev invented an apt chant.   Sadly, all too little too late. Godleman on his 1st class debut was out for a golden Ed Smith.

A defeat by 17 runs.  Kev asked girlfriend of one of Turkeys who does not normally go to cricket what she thought.  “ I enjoyed the bit when the umpire fell over?”  Says it all.
