The Editor says: “for those readers less knowledgeable than Janet, the crock on the left is Mel Betts and the crock on the right with the protected right ankle is Ed Joyce.”

The Editor also says: “please, Embers, save them for the County Championship.  Especially Joyce.  Last time he tried to play Twenty20…………”

Janet’s submission: The wicket ball

Janet says: “bit dark as facing sun, but done it again................first time I
remembered to take photos of us bowling.”

The Editor says: “as usual a little difficult to verify Janet’s wicket-taking delivery photos.  Keep trying, though, Janet.  And if you do have a knack of snapping the wicket taking balls, would you mind snapping a little more often please.  It’s not the photos we want, you understand, it’s the wickets.”

Young snapper of the year

Rory, aged 10, has submitted this fabulous view from the top of the Pagoda.  Rory’s dad writes: “Having taken my son to watch the Surrey mis-match at Lord's on Tuesday, it was the girls' choice of something to do today, so we ended up not in Old Deer Park, but next door wandering the 300 acres of the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew (what happened to plain old Kew Gardens?).

However, we did manage to be up the pagoda during the Sussex innings. Funny, from my lofty viewpoint, it appeared to be going quite well - but I suspect that, from reading the reports, what I saw was Silverwood's wicket maiden.

Rory (age 10) was taking pictures of every blade of grass (seemingly) but did manage to get this shot from nine floors up.

The Editor says: “for that particular game, the further away from the action you were, the better it looked.  If you are a Middlesex supporter of course.”
