The great Canterbury poet Geoferry Chaucer has come back from the dead to report on day 1 of the LVCC match at Canterbury. He also gives prose on the CB40 match the previous day and some thoughts on the changing face of his beloved ground.

Tale of False Hope ( CB40  match night before)

Middlesex are full of hope thanks to a century from AC

It looks like the score is going to be 100 X 3

Then just as the 3rd wicket goes

The rest fall like a pack of dominoes

263 should be more than plenty

After all this is not 20/20

Then Dial M drops a vital catch

And Middlesex contrive to lose the match.

Tale of Drudgery (Morning session LVCC match)

Kent openers bat oh so slow

Denly and Key have got no get up go

They crawled slowly to 61 without a scare.

Then Key out LBW and gave umpire a nasty scare

North East out just before lunch

Well-bowled Crookie thanks a bunch.

So the early part of batting without haste.

End up being an absolute waste

Tale of freefall followed by recovery (Afternoon session)

They say one wicket leads to two and two to three.

So we quickly dismiss Van Jaarseveld, Stevens and Joe Denly

When Jones is out LBW bowled by Corey

The whole match is now a different story

Mahmood out first ball is run out

This is turning into a rout

We are irritated by stand by Coles and Treadwell

If they get many more I'm not going to go to bed well.

Things improve as Murtagh bowls

He gets the wicket of Matt Coles.

Kent end up with total 242, which is poor

But until both teams have batted never judge a score

Tale of Light in the Gloom (Middlesex reply after tea)

Middx bat and the clouds are turning grey

But Robbo and Newman are determined to stay.

Defence by Newman is complete class

Those who say he is rubbish are talking out of their backside

The Middle can bat here all through the night

Problem was at 6:30 there was very bad light.

They went off leaving 18 overs being unbowled

But was relieved it was over as I was getting cold

Middlesex close on 55 without loss

Not bad day considering we lost the toss

700 hundred years ago I enjoyed looking at the lime tree

Now its replace by one that is very wee

The view of the backdrop is really s*ite

A monstrosity of a building site

Now we have a new digital scoreboard that are all the rave.

If I were alive today I'd turn in my grave.
