Struggling Yorkshire belatedly showed some form with the bat, falling two shy of a five hundred total. Clearly the pitch was batsman-friendly, but to finish with honours even was something of a morale booster. However, it's highly unlikely that draws in their three remaining matches will preserve the Tykes' top flight status. Therefore it is imperative that they pull one or two rabbits out of the hat in the closing weeks, whilst hoping for favourable weather in Leeds and Worcester. Bowling well in one match and then batting well in the next is not enough. The white rose protagonists need to put in a good shift in both departments in the same fixture, starting with the visit of fellow-strugglers Lancashire next week.
Nottinghamshire versus YORKSHIRE; in Nottingham; Tuesday the fourth to Friday the seventh of September. YORKSHIRE won the toss and chose to bowl.
Nottinghamshire first innings: 448 (Slater 109, Duckett 80, Brathwaite 71, Patel 54; Waite 3-91, Bresnan 3-93)
YORKSHIRE first innings: 498 (Kohler-Cadmore 106, Balalnce 104, Bresnan 80, Tattersall 51; Patel 6-114)
Nottinghamshire second innings: 93 for one declared
Match drawn. Nottinghamshire twelve points, YORKSHIRE twelve points.
Lyth - Lythy has been perpetually overlooked for the captaincy, and electing to bowl didn't prove too clever. The less that's said about his six-ball innings, the better!
Patel - Fifteen runs on his debut for Yorkshire's latest import was seriously but predictably underwhelming. Jeet did at least weigh in with a couple of catches.
Brook - Harry did lead our revival with a reasonable forty-seven. However he really needs to cash in when he makes such a start, to atone for lots of low scores too.
Ballance - GB rescued his team after another shaky start to their reply. He struck twenty boundaries on the way to a swift and most welcome three figure score.
Kohler-Cadmore - Tom constructed an uncharacteristically patient knock which resulted in his maiden first class century for Yorkshire. Can he kick on from here?
Tattersall - Three catches and an innings of fifty-one wasn't a bad return for JT. However, it was harsh to drop Hoddy from the team and restore young Tattersall.
Bresnan - Tim was the pick of the bowlers, with match figures of three for 100. His innings of eighty was also his biggest effort in an otherwise barren season.
Waite - Matthew bowled 26 overs, at a cost of ninety-seven runs, and he chipped in with forty-two runs. This was a par performance for someone on a learning curve.
Pillans - He bowled thirty overs, conceded 130 runs, and failed to take a wicket. He also scored eight runs. I hope that Yorkshire CCC have held on to the receipt.
Brooks - Jack's star is on the wane, symptomatic of the team's decline. He bowled 21 overs and took two wickets, costing 94 runs. His batting amounted to one run.
Poysden - His twenty overs cost 94 runs. Thus far he appears to be a poor replacement for Adil Rashid. At least he hit more runs than Adam Lyth.
