Below can be found the good, the bad, and the ugly of Yorkshire's ill-fated County Championship campaign of 2011. Brace yourselves!

2011: 8th (relegated); (County champions: Lancashire)

Worcestershire v Yorkshire; 8-11 April; at Worcester

Worcestershire first innings: 286 [Mason 63; Rashid 6-77]

Yorkshire first innings: 368 [Brophy 177*, Sidebottom 61; Mason 3-72, Wright 3-79]

Worcestershire second innings: 137 [Kervezee 52; Rashid 5-37, Patterson 3-43]

Yorkshire second innings: 56 for 1

This win was a personal triumph for Adil Rashid who weighed in with eleven wickets at a cost of only 114 runs.

YORKSHIRE WON BY NINE WICKETS; Worcestershire 4 points; YORKSHIRE 22 points

 

Yorkshire v Durham; 14-17 April; at Headingley

Durham first innings: 327 [Di Venuto 74, Richardson 67, Plunkett 66*; Sidebottom 4-72, Pyrah 3-70]

Yorkshire first innings: 149 [Onions 5-53, Thorp 3-33]

Durham second innings: 311 for 6 declared [Benkenstein 150, Richardson 73*]

Yorkshire second innings: 343 [Pyrah 87, Bairstow 81; Borthwick 3-49, Plunkett 3-75]

Yorkshire made a decent fist at the required total of 490, but the damage had been done in a woeful first innings.

DURHAM WON BY 146 RUNS; Durham 22 points; YORKSHIRE 3 points

 

Yorkshire v Nottinghamshire; 20-23 April; at Headingley

Nottinghamshire first innings: 143 [Hales 85; Pyrah 5-58, Sidebottom 4-30]

Yorkshire first innings: 336 [Gale 145*, Lyth 64; Fletcher 4-97]

Nottinghamshire second innings: 337 [Read 86, Hales 83, Mullaney 83; Sidebottom 4-67, Rashid 3-52, Pyrah 3-73]

Yorkshire second innings: 86 [Bairstow 50*; Franks 3-24, Fletcher 3-27, Shreck 3-29]

Poor Jonny Bairstow was left waiting at the altar as the hosts spectacularly failed to chase a mere 145 runs.

NOTTINGHAMSHIRE WON BY 58 RUNS; YORKSHIRE 6 points; Nottinghamshire 19 points

 

Nottinghamshire v Yorkshire; 4-7 May; at Nottingham

Yorkshire first innings: 534 for 9 declared [Bairstow 205, Root 95, Lyth 57, Sayers 50; Franks 4-135]

Nottinghamshire first innings: 428 [Phillips 71*, Edwards 64, Hales 59, Adams 54; Rashid 3-44, Shahzad 3-99, Pyrah 3-120]

Yorkshire second innings: 113 for 2 declared [Lyth 52]

Nottinghamshire second innings: 31 for 0

Young Alex Hales, who needed stitches, still managed to chalk up his third fifty against Yorkshire in the last month.

Yorkshire v Hampshire; 11-14 May; at Headingley

Yorkshire first innings: 355 [Bresnan 87, Bairstow 83; Cork 5-75]

Hampshire first innings: 232 [Myburgh 64; Shahzad 5-65, Sidebottom 3-45]

Yorkshire second innings: 165 for 8 declared [Kabir Ali 4-43, Cork 3-51]

Hampshire second innings: 153 for 8 [Ervine 55, Bresnan 3-18]

Yorkshire narrowly failed to convert their superiority into a win, a failing that would haunt them at the end of the summer.

Lancashire v Yorkshire; 18-21 May; at Liverpool

Yorkshire first innings: 141 [Sayers 53; Maharoof 4-35, Keedy 4-44]

Yorkshire second innings: 308 [Sayers 75, Gale 60, Ballance 57, Rashid 52; Keedy 6-133]

Lancashire second innings: 121 for 4 [Rashid 3-34]

The spinner Gary Keedy helped himself to ten wickets as the red rose comfortably triumphed in this neighbourly dispute.

LANCASHIRE WON BY SIX WICKETS; Lancashire 22 points; YORKSHIRE 2 points

 

Somerset v Yorkshire; 24-27 May; at Taunton

Yorkshire first innings: 358 [Bairstow 136, Ballance 61; Kirby 3-54, Hussain 3-87, Willoughby 3-90]

Somerset first innings: 452 [Trescothick 189, Suppiah 95, Hildreth 87; Rashid 4-100, Sidebottom 3-66]

Yorkshire second innings: 321 [Bairstow 80, Root 67, Rashid 51*, Gale 50]

Somerset second innings: 228 for 0 [Trescothick 151*, Suppiah 67*]

The home team's captain Marcus Trescothick put Yorkshire to the sword with 340 runs in this decisive victory.

SOMERSET WON BY TEN WICKETS; Somerset 24 points; YORKSHIRE 6 points

 

Sussex v Yorkshire; 29 May-1 June; at Hove

Sussex first innings: 548 for 4 declared [Goodwin 274*, Wells 174]

Yorkshire first innings: 273 [Root 70, Patterson 53; Parnell 3-60]

Yorkshire second innings: 314 for 8 [Bairstow 76, Ballance 73*; Panesar 5-89]

Gary Ballance faced 207 deliveries for his defiant 73 as the Tykes narrowly escaped from the south coast with a draw.

MATCH DRAWN; Sussex 10 points; YORKSHIRE 5 points

 

Durham v Yorkshire; 18-21 June; at Chester-le-Street

Yorkshire first innings: 185 [Harmison 3-27, Onions 3-75]

Durham first innings: 408 for 8 declared [Collingwood 108, Mustard 70, Borthwick 67*, Muchall 55; Patterson 3-82]

Yorkshire second innings: 280 for 4 declared [Gale 101*, Lyth 69, Ballance 53*]

No play was possible on the first day. Anthony McGrath had a match to forget, with three runs from two innings.

Yorkshire v Worcestershire; 11-14 July; at Scarborough

Worcestershire first innings: 168 [Bresnan 4-64]

Yorkshire first innings: 367 [Gale 72; Richardson 3-66]

Worcestershire second innings: 332 [Andrew 57; Pyrah 4-91]

Yorkshire second innings: 135 for 4 [Root 52*]

No batsman made a score over 75 in this tussle. Yorkshire's decision to bowl first was entirely vindicated.

YORKSHIRE WON BY SIX WICKETS; YORKSHIRE 21 points; Worcestershire 3 points

 

Yorkshire v Lancashire; 20-23 July; at Headingley

Lancashire first innings: 328 [Croft 54, Smith 51; Sidebottom 4-68, Shahzad 3-61]

Yorkshire first innings: 239 [Pyrah 117, Sidebottom 52; Hogg 5-62]

Lancashire second innings: 194 [Hogg 52, Mahmood 50; Bresnan 4-50]

Yorkshire second innings: 260 [Chapple 5-71]

Yorkshire recovered from 45-8 in the first innings while Lancashire was reeling at 87-8 in reply. This was a crucial defeat.

LANCASHIRE WON BY 23 RUNS; YORKSHIRE 4 points; Lancashire 22 points

 

Hampshire v Yorkshire; 2-5 August; at Southampton

Yorkshire first innings: 532 [McGrath 115, Rudolph 99, Ballance 76, Gale 54, Brophy 53; Imran Tahir 6-132]

Hampshire first innings: 599 for 3 declared [Carberry 300*, McKenzie 237]

Yorkshire second innings: 40 for 0

Only Brophy and Gale did not bowl in Hampshire's innings, during which Rashid and Wainwright conceded 296 runs.

Yorkshire v Sussex; 17-20 August; at Scarborough

Sussex first innings: 398 [Yardy 130, Brown 108; Sidebottom 5-53, Pyrah 3-64]

Yorkshire first innings: 388 [Root 160, Ballance 87; Khan 4-70, Parnell 3-86]

Sussex second innings: 333 for 6 declared [Yardy 122, Anyon 53; Rashid 4-121]

Yorkshire second innings: 312 for 6 [Rudolph 120, Sayers 84]

Yorkshire fell just short of the required total, batting for only 54 overs, after Michael Yardy had recorded two centuries.

Yorkshire v Warwickshire; 23-26 August; at Headingley

Yorkshire first innings: 297 [Ballance 57; Barker 4-73, Metters 3-31]

Warwickshire first innings: 482 [Chanderpaul 193, Barker 85, Ambrose 66; Root 3-33, Wainwright 3-111]

Yorkshire second innings: 127 [Wright 5-31, Barker 4-56]

Barker took eight wickets and McGrath could only hit eight runs in two innings as this 'contest' finished a day early.

WARWICKSHIRE WON BY AN INNINGS AND 58 RUNS; YORKSHIRE 4 points; Warwickshire 23 points

 

Warwickshire v Yorkshire; 31 August - 3 September; at Birmingham  

Yorkshire first innings: 281 [Sayers 84, Lyth 74; Clarke 4-55]

Warwickshire first innings: 318 [Chanderpaul 110, Ambrose 69, Westwood 55; Sidebottom 5-43]

Yorkshire second innings: 385 for 8 declared [Ballance 111, Rashid 82, McGrath 57; Wright 4-102]

Warwickshire second innings: 214 for 3 [Troughton 62*, Chanderpaul 56*]

Warwickshire were chasing 349 to win when the match was abandoned due to bad light, with almost 21 overs left.

Yorkshire v Somerset; 7-10 September; at Headingley

Somerset first innings: 265 [Barrow 69, Buttler 52; Sidebottom 4-61]

Yorkshire first innings: 195 [Lyth 52; Thomas 5-66, Kirby 3-65]

Somerset second innings: 132 [Sidebottom 7-37]

Yorkshire second innings: 205 for 4 [Bairstow 53*]

Ryan Sidebottom's bowling heroics, with match figures of 11-97 were in vain because Yorkshire were still relegated.
