A Captain's Innings

The Vikings made it an impressive two wins out of two, over Midlands opposition, in the encouraging early stages of the 2015 Twenty20 Blast. The visiting captain, Andrew Gale, not only won the toss, but then proceeded to steal the show with a captain's innings of 68 not out. Gale, who probably by his own admission, blows hot and cold (if you can excuse the pun) needs to produce more such efforts from the top of the order, if his county are to collect one-day silverware. At least he has laid down a confidence-boosting marker for himself.

Having asked the Outlaws to bat first, the away team could take great satisfaction from only conceding three extras to such a dangerous team. Even Andrew Hodd kept Galey good company in their opening partnership of 61. Meanwhile the debutant Glenn Maxwell chipped in with a characteristic twenty off only twelve deliveries. Unfortunately young Fisher could not repeat his five-wicket heroics from the previous Friday and instead was scalped for twenty-two runs off two overs. Such are the slings and arrows of one-day cricket! The scores were as follows:
