Rain Rescues Yorkshire

By Gary Watton

After a distinctly underwhelming Twenty20 campaign, Yorkshire regrettably set off on their Royal London One-Day Cup adventure with a below par performance at home to Gloucestershire. None of our batsmen were able to record even a half century, with Leaning and Plunkett being dismissed for a duck egg. Gale again failed to ignite the team when foolishly opening the batting.

Of some consolation were the efforts from the hot and cold Maxwell and from the returning Ballance. However, our best performer was Tim Bresnan whose batting has been a revelation in 2015. He even stifled the visitors' run chase by opening with a maiden over. Whether or not the away team would have found their way to the less than daunting target, we will never know, but I suspect that the Tykes had more cause to celebrate the intervention of rain than Gloucestershire. In the end, even Duckworth and Lewis were refused a role in the proceedings, so a share of the points was not a bad return for the white rose protagonists. A big improvement will be required by the batsmen as they now prepare to make the short trip to Derbyshire.
