After a couple of below par performances, Yorkshire's second XI opening batsmen excelled in their one-day fixture in Nottingham as the county's second string earned their first triumph of the new season.

Yorkshire actually won the toss in their Second XI Trophy outing in the midlands but the decision of Will Rhodes to bowl first did not exactly go to plan as the hosts accumulated a demanding total of 247 for 8 off their allotted fifty overs. Kelsall and Hassan Azad added 107 runs for the second wicket while nobody in the Yorkshire attack really covered themselves in much glory.

In reply however, the teenagers Elliot Callis and Jonny Tattersall added 146 runs for the first wicket, thereby putting the visitors in firm command as they set about their tricky run chase. In the event, the Tykes got over the finishing line with a full over to spare.

Second XI Trophy: Nottinghamshire Second XI versus YORKSHIRE Second XI; at Nottingham; YORKSHIRE won the toss.

Nottinghamshire Second XI: 247 for 8 off 50 overs (Kelsall 58, Hassan Azad 57)

YORKSHIRE Second XI: 248 for 6 off 49 overs (Callis 78, Tattersall 72; Tillcock 3-46)

YORKSHIRE SECOND XI won by four wickets. Nottinghamshire Second XI 0 points; YORKSHIRE SECOND XI 2 points
