Yorkshire's second eleven don't do things by halves. Having suffered two losses in the Second XI Twenty20 tournament to Durham and then completing a brace of triumphs against Nottinghamshire's second string, the Tykes returned to losing ways with a pair of defeats at the hands of Derbyshire's second eleven. This leaves the white rose with only two wins from six Twenty20 skirmishes.
In fact there is little comfort to be derived from the twin defeats against Derbyshire's second eleven as the northern county did not bat anywhere near well enough, with duck eggs being recorded by Hodgson, Leaning, Rafiq, and captain Tattersall. At least Azeem Rafiq bowled well in the first tussle, conceding a mere seven runs from four overs. Well, without further ado, here are the scores, which do not make for pleasant reading:
Derbyshire second XI won the toss.
Derbyshire second XI: 117 for 8 off 20 overs (Shaw 3-25)
YORKSHIRE SECOND XI: 91 off 19.3 overs (Higginbottom 3-11)
Derbyshire second XI won by 26 runs. Derbyshire second XI 2 points, YORKSHIRE SECOND XI 0 points.
Second time around, the away team chose to bat first, but their total was nothing to write home about. Our misfiring quartet of Hodgson, Leaning, Tattersall, and Rafiq were dismissed for scores of 0, 1, 2, and 8 respectively. The talented Dan Hodgson suffered a humiliating pair of ducks. Then when the hosts replied, Rafiq and Rhodes conceded an unacceptable fifty-six runs from five overs that they bowled between them. However, eighteen-year-old Karl Carver certainly has pressed his claim for promotion to the first eleven, while Jack Leaning also bowled a commendable maiden over.
YORKSHIRE SECOND XI won the toss.
YORKSHIRE SECOND XI: 121 for 8 off 20 overs
Derbyshire second XI: 123 for 6 off 18.4 overs (Carver 4-14)
Derbyshire second XI won by four wickets. Derbyshire second XI 2 points, YORKSHIRE SECOND XI 0 points.
