England Pick Several Yorkshiremen

England have announced the tour parties that will engage in test, one-day international, and Twenty20 combat against our dear friends from Pakistan. The Yorkshire players who will be packing their suitcases for the United Arab Emirates are as follows:

Test squad:

Jonny Bairstow

Liam Plunkett

Adil Rashid

Joe Root

I doubt whether Liam Plunkett will feature in the tests, but surely Rashid's test debut is imminent this time. The omission of Adam Lyth is scarcely surprising. Alex Hales, like Adil Rashid, deserves his chance to shine. Gary Ballance can count himself unfortunate to be overlooked, but the inclusion of James Taylor is also merited.

One-day squad:

Jonny Bairstow

Adil Rashid

Joe Root

The belligerent late-order batting from Plunkett may be missed, but his one-day bowling is nothing to write home about. Nor indeed is Rashid's one-day bowling any great shakes either.

Twenty20 squad:

Adil Rashid

Joe Root

Jonny Bairstow has been excluded, which is a bad decision, as he is as likely as the recently under-performing Buttler to unleash batting fireworks.

Our new recruit, the dynamic all-rounder David Willey, soon to take his leave of Northamptonshire, has also justifiably been selected for both the one-day internationals and the Twenty20 contests.
