The mighty Vikings are still intent on gatecrashing the knockout stages of the Twenty20 Blast. They took a giant leap forward, courtesy of a long-overdue mammoth total which itself was a product of a brilliant innings from the in-form Adam Lyth. His opening partner David Willey also weighed in with important runs, and there were good contributions from Jack Leaning and the impressive Travis Head. Predictably, Alex Lees proved able to win the toss but forlorn yet again with bat in hand. As one observer has quipped, at least he only used up five balls.
Then a rejuvenated Liam Plunkett and the increasingly indispensable Azeem Rafiq only conceded forty runs off eight overs between them. Meanwhile young Carver almost monopolised the drama when his first four deliveries resulted in wicket, six, six, wicket. There is scarcely a dull moment when young Karl turns his arm over.
Now the hosts must follow up this rampage with another success when they entertain the canny and very streetwise Northamptonshire Steelbacks. Maybe we should have saved about forty of our runs for that difficult assignment!
