Where will the likes of Tom Banton be playing their white ball cricket next year? Will they have to look at the 'Hundred' franchises at the expense of the counties they presently reside in and play for? Will there be some kind of related deal available that allows them to split themselves between the 2 form of short format? Nobody really knows but I got the chance to have a chat with some people who have a little bit of an inkling into what little gems the process might include. This is as much as that tells us presently
Where will the likes of Tom Banton be playing their white ball cricket next year?
Will they have to look at the 'Hundred' franchises at the expense of the counties they presently reside in and play for? Will there be some kind of related deal available that allows them to split themselves between the 2 forms of short format - T20 and 100? Nobody really knows but I got the chance to have a chat with some people who have a little bit of an inkling into what little gems the process might include.
I can't reveal my sources at the moment because it is a sort of mixture of what I got from a number of people. So you will have to take this on that basis and ignore it if you feel so inclined. All I can say is that this information is from those who would have reasons to know some of the detail - though it may have changed since we chatted about it. It not only shows the kind of thinking related to the draft but also the fact that seemingly nothing is set in any kind of stone halfway through the season with the contract negotiating period of the cricketing year coming over the horizon for the 2020 season and beyond. No pressure guys...
I'll try and put this all in some kind of order
It seems that the ECB have probably twigged that no one will go and watch unless some of their local heroes are playing. So each area will have 2 choices from the local cricketing playing staff (though no one seems sure if this is the Test Match ground county or related non 'franchise' counties as well) that they can make before the rest go into the larger national draft pool.
England players are expected to be allocated to their affiliated counties so Woakes to Birmingham, Hales to Notts etc even if its only for the marketing. No one seems to be sure if they will be allowed to play or will just be ambassadors for the franchise.
Franchises may also have up to 3 'Trumps'. If Birmingham want Bell and Glamorgan have a top bid in for him they can 'trump' that bid and take him.
So the 'Oval Whatevertheyarecalleds' may have two non playing related England players (a Curran and a Roy) 2 local picks and three trumps on other county bids.
Therefore the Draft seems to be planned to have a few twists and turns.
The draft is not going to be like the IPL auction. It seems that there are going to be salary grades with each team having 2 or 3 players at each grade (15 man squad so 5 salary levels?). The highest levels are up for offer first.
County contracted players chosen will lose something like 12.5 % of their county contract as compensation for their loss during the season (the 50 over competition at least). Does this mean that every player will go in at their lowest grade possible knowing they will lose less money! Will they have that choice or will the level be decided for them? There seems to be 120 places in the sides (15 x8) and if 16 of these are pre draft county choices then the sides will look to fill 104 places from the draft. How many will offer themsleves? Who knows.
Each team has a set salary cap (the initial figure was around £8m for the whole lot and so that is £1 million apiece - though no one seems sure what is included in that figure in terms of 'salaries' - playing? non playing? coaching?) all of it seems to have to be spent so you use it or you lose it.
The first pick for each team will be the highest paid, however it could be player that has ranked himself at his lowest point. It will probably be the overseas stars first. Players remain in the draft until all of the salary has been spent at that level, each team must have two players at the top salary, two at the next and so on to the lowest grade. One would assume that those not drafted return to their former duties and therefore become available for their county again if contracted.
If two teams want the same player at the same salary level then this is where the 'trump' would be used. This will need a lot of working out and 'wheeler dealing' like those in the Kevin Costner film 'The Draft' about the NFL version. Can't wait to see how this has been done by the ECB.
NONE of this is supposed to be part of county contract dealings..... though if you want a player to be at your ground and you can get them there by guaranteeing their participation in the 100 as part of your pre draft choice are you NOT going to do that?
So there's exciting then!!
As I pointed out at the top of this, this information is gleaned from discussions and conversations with people who may find themselves involved with the process. It is not gospel and it is certainly open to change on an almost daily basis. It is only provided as an attempt to give people an idea what kind of event is coming and what effects it might have on the structure of the county squad during one 6 to 8 week period in the 2020 season.
It will, of course, also have effects on contract negotiations and decisions made before the 2020 concerning the location of some professional cricketers who may see part of their future enclosed within the 'Hundred' bubble, at least for white ball cricket.
If you have other information then please put it into the thread below to add it into the overall picture. If you have extra content that shows that some of this is totally in the wrong ball park concerning the 'd(r)aft' process then please share if you can.
The end produce may bear no resemblance to this, or we may be closer than we think. We can only try to get what we can and talk it through to understand the issues. Most of this I believe is in the public domain. If I've shared something I shouldn't please let me know and I'll take the appropriate action.
There has seldom been a more stupid comment than that of Chuku Umuna who, when reacting to criticism of Change Uk's logo, responded:
"There could be no clearer indication of the fact that our politics is broken."
Yep, Chuka, record numbers using food banks etc pales next to that criticism.. (no, I don't think it was a clever point about there were more important things to talk about, but rather another tired attempt to repeat their hackneyed slogan).

I'm happy for this to stay until the policies of the board that are setting it up become so idiotic that it offends my cricket prejudices to the point where I cannot stand it any more.
I state here and now that there is NOTHING about this waste of time that I personally can find positive so I will be the 'Tom Seymour' of this thread and make no apologies for it.
(unless of course Tom is against it as well in which case I am going to be so confused as I will be agreeing with him..)
It's going ahead any way, if that's what you mean with your comment?
Whether we wish it to succeed or not is very unlikely to have any impact on the outcome, given that not one of us will watch a ball of it.
Don't get me wrong, part of me would experience immense schadenfreude at the expense of the loathsome Mr Graves if and when (I believe the latter) the whole thing falls flat on its face... but the fact remains that the ECB is going to waste a fortune on it, so its failure won't do the game's finances much good, no?
I'll be very surprised if that date stays the same.
I think they might find that their plans for players to be available may alter between now and the end of the season. Unless they know something that has not been reported, there will be no Indian players involved or those booked to play in the Caribbean as it is on at the same time.
Hope they are going to do an all singing and dancing 'draft day' event to hype it up. Cricket seems to do this particularly badly so there should be some comedy involved.
At least we might know who is available early though so there's that.
As I currently have no prior engagement for 20 October and an unhelpfully tidy sock draw, I will be looking for like-minded people to join with me in sticking pins in my eyes.
Similar piece in the Telegraph which adds some interesting points, including the fact that the ECB still hasn't reached agreement with the TMGs over hosting rights. Apparently there are 250 points of difference over the contracts sent out earlier this year. 250!
At this rate we're heading for a No Deal Hundred...

Edited to add, Andrew Miller's Cricinfo piece. Best of the lot.👌🐘
Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 2019:05:16:06:12:34 by Bagpuss.
I see that, per Miller, India's players have zero intention of participating in this utterly worthless jamboree.
However, I suspect that Miller has made a mistake when he asserts that the likes of Jos and Jofra Archer will be too busy playing Tests to take part. I'm sure we can all see the obvious mistake here. Oh no, the ECB will add "The Hundred," to Central Contracts and make the likes of Jos play in that, whilst picking lesser players for the Tests, at least for the first, desperate, incarnation of this unmitigated drivel.
I can scarcely believe that he has accused the ECB of "aloof incompetence." I mean, really, how could he!?
I think the biggest irony is that "we" England / ECB are holding the 50 over world cup the year prior to them ripping up the 50 over tournament.
By the time the next world cup comes around you watch England have a shocker and then all the commentators (and anyone with a voice) will blame it on the lack of a competitive 50 over comptition
THat won't necessarily happen, depending on how many new players need to be introduced for said World Cup ... because 50 overs will continue at international level ... the current England players seldom play in the domestic comp anyway.
AGod THat won't necessarily happen, depending on how many new players need to be introduced for said World Cup ... because 50 overs will continue at international level ... the current England players seldom play in the domestic comp anyway.
True, so those involved with England will play, but means nobody outside that group will get any other playing time?
Yes, it means that, if there's an injury crisis, then there'll be trouble.
One assumes that England will rotate a group of 16 or so in international 50 over cricket, over the next four years.
But, if an injury crisis or collective loss of form occurs? They might struggle to find replacements - depending, of course, on whether or not one views T20 as any kind of worthwhile proxy for 50 over stuff.
Per the ES, a massive new row has broken out between Surrey and the ECB, with the result that Surrey have pledged to never again share ticket sales data after it was ‘’deliberately misrepresented by the ECB.’
Not surprised that the photo along with the press release was not from a cricket match in England. - would not have looked good to have folk wearing Somerset CCC sun hats in the picture.
Such folk are ‘the enemy of the future of the game,” - a future which now, apparently, consists of folks who have, hithertofore, shown zero interest in cricket.
Seriously, one can see their point about needing to develop a younger audience but I can’t see how creating an execrable new product is going to meet that aim.
To be frank, all the ECB actually needed to do was to keep to the 18 County format.
If they wanted to, they could have changed the rules to an IPL style 4 overseas players per team (to try to upgrade the quality of the play). They could also have switched to a two division format, to raise the standard of the better teams.
They could still have introduced their "innovations," such as bowling all of the balls from one end, or only having 16.4 overs, or what have you and I think most fans of the game would have thought "well, some of the ideas are a bit funny, but my team is playing and so, yeah, I'll go along and watch a game."
The target market for this competition was supposed be an Indian one (and reached by TV). But all most Indian fans care about is watching their players. If Tendulkar were playing, it would matter not one with whether he were playing for "Birmingham," or "Warks," "London," or Surrey." The Indian thing was supposed to be the original idea and games were, accordingly, going to be played on weekday afternoons for the benefit of Indian primetime TV and with the additional aim of bringing the kids in on their school holidays.
But they seem to be obsessed with the idea that people will only watch games in cities, this despite the fact that almost nobody goes to watch cricket in Bristol or Cardiff.. and despite the fact that games in the North, outside of the Roses clash, are sparsely attended in the T20 forma.t
There is one sentence in AGod's piece-which is spot on- which sums up the whole thing
"my team is playing ". In this format no one's team is playing because you can't just call a team "Cardiff" and have instant loyalty. I'd watch Somerset 3rds play tiddlywinks because of long held tribal loyalty whereas in a pick up game no one cares who wins and competition is the essence of professional sport.
Another concern is that once you have a "competition" which is little more than an exhibition event, with a disparate group of "stars" who have little in the way of long-term loyalty to their team mates (who will change, year-on-year dependant on the draft) or the faked-up badge they are wearing, you have a situation where corruption will find easier bedfellows.
Fear and Loathing in English Cricket's Fraying Heartland. A long but excellent piece by Andy Bull for the Guardian. I can't post the link but it's worth a read.
Here’s the link, but those of a sensitivite disposition may need some anti nausea tablets before the end bit which discloses Tom Harrison’s pay rise and massive salary;
Well you've got to spend the £40m somewhere people. The setup is nearly all already in place as we have a short form tournament in progress - the Blast! - in domestic cricket at the moment which will continue (successfully I hope).
Yeah I merged the threads to put the report on as I'm updating as we go. Not Farmer in my wordage but let me know if the mobile version starts to slow down because I understand it is a different thread base.
Six of the new team names appear to be as shown in this article - HERE
As it says in the article ... 'It is also likely that fans of Somerset and Gloucestershire, who are in partnership with Glamorgan, will not be overly-enamoured that the Cardiff-based team will be called Welsh Fire.'
Well he knows the BCCI will never give no objection certificates to allow their players to participate in another country's 'superleague' that's for sure.
At a time when Somerset cricket is basking in the glow of Lord's glory and a lofty place in the championship table this abomination worms its way into the news. It is just not worthy of comment.
It's amazing that the ECB are trying to get more interest into these teams, but just looking at these early examples of team names surely alienates a high number of support that were intended to be brought in?
I had zero interest before, but now to be expected to support a side called "Welsh Fire", well that can go where the sun doesn't shine !
The 100 has no interest in the South West of the country and I think that seems pretty fine by the residents if that part of the country.
'Trent Rockets' isn't going down all that well in the Midlands either.
Excellent that they chose to push this as the 'global' contest that they want to marginalise in our domestic game gets started with England as the favourites.
So Harrison must not have s twitter account then or only has his "overwhelming supporters' on it.
The ONLY people I have seen give this any support are those in the visual media who have a vested interest and some officials at franchise grounds who can do little else.
He also must not read the print media who are identifying shortfalls in the concept on what seems to be a daily basis.
Then again he isn't going to say anything else is he?
Did my best to link to the Harrison interview, but all that happened was it told me the result of the Eng/Pak game I was planning to watch on C4 later.
I doubt I'd have learned anything helpful anyway.
The ECB will make sure there are no empty seats at Sofia Gardens by following the IPL example and giving away huge numbers of free tickets. Free buses into the ground - another IPL catch penny - may well come into the equation as well.
This is why the budget is so gigantic for a relatively short event (although, of course, it is not an event in the proper sense of the word).
An interesting thought from George Dobell during today's rain-affected ODI.
What would it cost to put a roof on a ground or two? Or even purpose build. Cos if we didn't play The 100, we'd have £200m to spend on it. Just a thought.
We can hope Mike, teach the ECB a lesson, although as the ECB are so determined for "IT" to be a success they will will probably allocate two reserve days for each match.
Revealed in the Times; the ECB is planning on classifying the Hundred as List A games for statistical purposes. They are in discussion with the ICC, who do not have to give permission, but have asked to be kept informed.

Also indicated that some counties may offer increased salaries to some to keep them out of the auction as the counties apparently are taking the one day comp seriously
It would be economic suicide not to. BUT they all have to do it or the same kevel quality won't always be there. The franchise grounds of course will have to play their games at festival/outgrounds.
Really hope they do take the one-day comp seriously, I've always been a big fan of it. I know they won't have any overseas players taking part (fine with me), but do we yet have any clarity on what it being a "development competition" means? For example, will it be age-limited (eg under 25s only), or players with limited FC experience, or just anyone not in a Hundred squad?
There was a twitter comment recently about it not being open to first team players but I think that would be very difficult to impose.
I suppose the ECB may wait and see how much of a commercial threat it may be to the Hundred and then act accordingly to make themselves money and put the competition out of business.
This is the idiocy of this whole thing that a commercial organisation has created a product in direct competition with a product it already has and is then taking steps to artificially skew the market in favour of the new but poorer of the two products against the one with the established and growing market.
It makes no commercial sense at all

Surely if its not open to first team players then it is in essence the same as the current Second XI Trophy. Except you will find players who have played first team cricket in that competition.
Well he's right about providing a local 50 over tournament of value and one can only hope that all countirs ignore the ECB "development' marketing ploy for the 100 and put out their strongest sides.
He's also right in saying there is nothing Somerset can do now. The time to make a stand was a while ago and we squandered it along with many others.
I'm not sure we'll lose the 'cream' as long as are willing to invest in the competition.
Given the fact that the ECB has effectively cut the South West of England out of it's top menu white ball tournament anywhere below Birmingham, hoping we get to play later is a bit of a pipe dream for Mr Cornish I would venture. The only way that might happen is if the powers that be abandon their 'urban' idea or the Welsh experiment really is a flop.
We took the 'jam tomorrow' option in the first part of this debacle and that was naive then. Hoping our future prosperity will still come that way is probably daft. Somerset may have to look locally and foster that market. Hoping the central body will suddenly begin to love the provinces again is maybe not a sensible way to go.
I could not be any less of a fan of the hundred.
But this "development" word seems to be confusing some.
There is no rule which says it will be a development competition in the 50 next year.
Very simply the best 100 players from the 18 counties will just not be available to play county 50 matches.
In addition overseas players are not allowed.
We will be hit therefore more than most you would think.
Lets pretend we lose 6 so Banton Hildy Lewis Jamie Craig & RVDM, very possible i'd say.
We could/would then put out the best of the rest, entirely our choice if they are young & untried or normal squad players. So for example.....
Davies Byrom Trego Abell George Green Dom Josh Brooks Timmy G Jack L
We may well chose to use Lamondby Rouse Sale Gilchrist but we arent forced to.
Many other counties who only lose 1, 2 or 3 to the hundred could be relatively uneffected in their 50 over line ups.
I will be at Taunton & various away venues watching my team defend it's 50 over trophy, the hundred could take place at the end of my road & i wouldnt watch it!

Either CG doesn't know that the ECB have already announced that 50 over one day domestic games will no longer have 'List A' status and are to be treated as 'academy games', or he is once again being grossly disingenuos:
Moving it to outgrounds will dilute the income drawn from it. But it's not a forward thinking plan. It has to be outground cricket for 8 counties because their main grounds will be in the hands of others.
It's all smoke, mirrors and spin with a little bit of bollox thrown in for good measure. Graves' plan gives counties no option in 40% of cases.
Who like a few others has moved towards this view from a different one over the last few months (though Lizzie was obsessed with the Durham situation in the early days to be fair) as the debacle has been sort of poured out onto the floor in no particular structure. The writers are also moving with their editors towards a seemingly different view.
Mikey Vaughan is not as supportive as he was originally either

We can but hope but I don't they will let it die so easily.

I hope it's all right to quote the last three sentences of the Times article here, because they explain well how Sunday's events have overturned a lot of the assumptions behind the Hundred:
In addition to fears about a lack of 50-over cricket hindering England’s prospects of defending the World Cup in India in four years’ time, the success of the recent tournament in engaging new fans, particularly in south Asian communities, has led some to question whether The Hundred is needed.
Some counties are also expected to use the anticipated financial boon that will follow England’s World Cup win to demand a bigger handout from the ECB. As The Times revealed last month, the counties have asked for an extra £27 million over the first five years of the competition in return for signing the contracts, which has proved a further sticking point, and the World Cup success is likely to embolden them further.
Overnight we've gone from resurrecting It's A Knockout to suddenly needing to cater for that massive swathe of the public who have now discovered the real thing. Mumz 'n' Kidz Krazy Kricket isn't going to cut it for those who've been treated to the events of Sunday.
"Did you enjoy it?," with no further explanation of "it", but gesturing at me.
I looked down and saw that I was wearing a Lord's anniversary T-shirt.
So I said, "Yeah, it was great."
And the response:
"I've never been a cricket fan, but I've changed my tune now."
I wonder if the ECB might twig that what they need is something good on terrestrial TV, rather than some contrived nonsense, hidden away on Sky. Of course, Sky, aren't likely to pay anything like full bung for something they have to share with other channels, though...So the Egotistical Cricket Board are going to have to make a relative choice between vast sums of lucre and much less lucre, but much more exposure.
Similar story AG - yesterday early evening the barman at our local enthusing about the best cricket match ever and he was glued to the tv all day (his day off) on Sunday. He is a cricket fan though.
We then went on to discuss the nonsense of the 100, the downgrading of the 50 over comp next year - all to two or three other chaps in the pub nodding along in agreement.
It's better than it was. I was very anti the move back to 50. I've been converted by the batting scores nowadays. 50 overs gives you that middle 10 overs to regroup if things go wrong. Get the 'press' working or regroup the vatting for a last 10 onslaught to get a cometitive total.
Good sides playing good sides in whatever format is going to provide a spectacle. It's why I don't particularly like the IPL. For all the sensational players there is the drafted in 'club cricketer' as well.
I really can't see that domestic cricket on the TV for 7 hrs will keep new comers transfixed. Maybe a specific free to air digital channel where you can watch it at your convenience or maybe a football type highlights package on a regular basis for T20 and 50 ober
For the record, I wouldn't cross the road to watch the new Hundred.
Domestic T20 appears to be going from strength to strength, with attendances growing year on year. If T20 is seen as the entry level to attract new spectators, if you in effect remove 50 domestic cricket, it is a big ask to expect newbies to go from watching T20 to a day of Championship cricket or test cricket.
50 over cricket is a bridge between the two, and it is being dismantled.
Most folks don’t seem to have patience for anything any more. It’s easy to see that, as NF said, most newcomers are unlikely to be enthralled with 7 hours of domestic 50 over cricket. However, I’m far from convinced that a 100 ball per side encounter is going to hold attentions for long enough, either. That’s still going to take, what, an absolute minimum of 2 hours, even if no innings break? And I assume it will actually be a minimum of 2.5 hours.
It's a pity that someone as respected as Andrew Strauss is advocating strongly for the hideous Hundred.
I don't think there are many cricket fans who think anything good about Messrs. Graves & Harrison etc., but AS is a different kettle of fish.
Meantime, just found this on a 'Lancashire Action Group' on Twitter, which at first glance looks like it could be significant news:
"All 18 Counties have agreed to set up an independent board away from the @ECB_cricket. Great news in giving all counties a voice. Also interesting that the MCC are chairing the new board who have a history of tension with the @ECB_cricket"
This is what it says but unfortunately no control over the Hundred
“The first-class counties have moved set up a Professional Game Board to give them greater control of county cricket in a major change to the sport’s governance that could create further conflict with the ECB.
The new body, which will meet for the first time in October under the chairmanship of the MCC, was approved at a meeting of all 18 county chief executives at Trent Bridge yesterday.
The creation of the Professional Game Board is not a breakaway from or challenge to the authority of the governing body, but an attempt to give a greater voice to the county clubs, many of whom have felt emasculated since the ECB created its own independent board two years ago.
The new board, which will feature broad representation from the counties, will meet to discuss issues pertaining to the county game specifically before passing resolutions to pass on to the main ECB board for ratification.
If the ECB refuses to ratify its decisions, over such matters as county scheduling, the future of the 50-over One Day Cup and the numbers of overseas players to be fielded by each county, that could lead to further conflict. The ECB may also be unhappy that the MCC will chair the new board, as there is a history of tension between the game’s two main powerbrokers at Lord’s.
The Professional Game Board will not have any influence over the controversial new Hundred competition, which has its own board under the jurisdiction of the ECB. The county executive held positive talks about the Hundred yesterday, which will continue today.”
What the ECB have not catered for is that all the youngsters who watched the final on Sunday and who want to watch the England players again either live or on TV will either need to be in a household with Sky Tv or live near enough and be able to afford tickets for the Ashes but otherwise no chance of seeing Buttler etc playing cricket again until next summer when they could see a 100 game but not live unless they lived in one of 7 cities.
By which time lots could have happened - England could win the rugby world cup and the enthusiasm for cricket will be relegated and forgotten.
Its all very well ECB say they are putting money into schemes for schools but schools wont be playing cricket until next April and momentum lost
A comment on the 'Madness' threw on our sister site MTWD from someone at Cardiff for their CC match; rumours that there is so little interest in the H*ndred in the 'Diff they may be including it with Glamorgan membership.
Graves latest plan seems to suggest the 50 over competition isn’t going to be downgraded but will be relaunched as a major spectacle.
Let me guess .At 8 test grounds with the best plAyers from the 18 counties, before the counties get downgraded.
It's the same plan just moved to a different format as the idea comes to the idiot. No thought about what this will mean for coverage over the whole country no concern for what it means to income streams of counties.
Where is the 2020 - 2025 plan for County Cricket? Is there such a thing?
'Central administration' has become an oxymoron for the morons of the ECB.
The only problem I see with the Professional Game Board is that they are not meeting until October , so I'm sure Graves will do everything possible to have his player draft sorted out before anyone can do anything about it.
Well from the end of this season from an ECB view in white ball cricket they are I'm afraid CH. Championship cricket may last longer out of the 8 centres but I wouldn't put money on it past 2025.
It looks like graves has returned his gaze to 50 over cricket now he sees money in it. We may lose whatever that was going to be in 2020 if he has his way.
The Blast! is already surplus to requirements as far as the central authority is concerned. How long they expect to allow that to last who knows.
I fail to see how in a second round of changes there is any 'semi-rational' reason for counties to choose 'survival' under a regime that wants shot of them when that is the one thing the ECB does NOT want.
The counties have to organise and fight this wholesale dismantling of the national aspect of cricket.
Bagpuss A comment on the 'Madness' threw on our sister site MTWD from someone at Cardiff for their CC match; rumours that there is so little interest in the H*ndred in the 'Diff they may be including it with Glamorgan membership.
Is the 'Madness' threw (?thread) something about the concert in Vivary Park last week?
I’m not saying that’s what I’d do if I were them. But there is an element of ‘damned if they do, damned if they don’t,’ where they are concerned.
If there were more counties in the sand sort of financial boat as us, Sussex, Essex, Worcs and Kent then there’d have been more chance of standing up to this in the first place.
Anyway, as you just said yourself, they’ve probably signed away extensions and variations in the smallprint of what they’ve already agreed to anyway.
Actually mad that each club will only have 5 home T20s next year instead of 7 all because of ‘ The 100’. Actually Crazy
Completely unsubstantiated comment on twitter this afternoon.
Nothing would surprise me despite us having been assured the blast would be unaffected & only the 50 over would clash with this trash.
I said a few weeks ago we are yet to find out the half of the full effects of this rubbish.
Training weeks, extra injury subs, losing Kerr Thorpe Trait etc. Nothing at all will surprise me next.
We best win the treble this season as it really coulfld be the last credible season of county cricket.
Champo non uniform from next season.
50 comp no overseas and minus 100 of the best county players.
Blast played in May June with clearly less importance, lesser overseas stars & rumours of reduced home matches......
Thought that would be about it. I don't expect a flood of Berry coaches up there next year for 'Fire' matches so they need to find at least 1/3 of the present audience from those new supplies of desperate '100' fans
There are rumours they are already fearing nobody will turn up.to Cardiff for the 100.
So much so they are thinking about offering 100 membership to the Welsh Fire for FREE to all Glamorgan members!
Count me out, sorry guys, I'd rather go and watch some cricket. Just letting you know in advance, don't want anyone throwing away all their time, huge amounts of money, their careers etc on a dead horse
If the 100 is under the control of the ECB, how will any participating Club be able to offer as part of their Club membership.
The entrance fees will be control by the ECB, as will the majority of other conditions and they (EC will want as much income possible to have ANY HOPE of making it work.
Glamorgan have had enough special favours over the past years it would totally wrong to allow them to smudge attendance by using false figures.
They may not be able to offer membership as part of a deal but because the grounds have the right to identify 2 players for the 100 squad from the local county squad they can theoretically offer players '100 enhanced' contracts for next year with the county playing terms being added to by a guaranteed berth in the local 100 franchise squad as well.
I don't know if that relates to Birmingham alone for example or if they are offering 2 berths to Worcestershire as well.... Depends who is 'linked' to who if they have thought that through. Does that mean that we have 2 berths in the 'Fire' squad along with 'Gloucestershire'?
Who knows... or cares to be honest (though it might keep people here I suppose to farm them out - lesser of two evils in the case of some - Dom for example?)
I'm going to close this thread down and ask you to move your musings to Part 2 so the mobile users can keep going. It seemed a good time to put the draft stuff in but the discussion needs to move as the thresd develpps and gets too big.
